Abstract Aquatint Etching Ross Bleckner Zig Zag lines New York Artist D Loop
Located in Surfside, FL
ROSS BLECKNER (American, b. 1949) "D Loop," 2002 Limited Edition Print : Color Aquatint With Spit Bite Aquatint And Gampi Chine-Collé on Somerset Paper Approximate dimensions - Frame 29.5 X 28,.5 inches, sheet 27 x 26 inches. Edition lower left: 2/20, Hand signed lower right. Publishers blind stamp lower right margin: Paulson Press. Ross Bleckner draws inspiration from science, psychology, and his own personal experience. The title of this print, D Loop, refers to molecular biology and DNA repair abstracted in vivid blue and yellow. Ross Bleckner (born May 12, 1949) is an American artist. He currently lives and works in New York City. His artistic focus is on painting, and he held his first solo exhibition in 1975. Bleckner grew up in Brooklyn, New York and he grew up Jewish. In an interview, Bleckner commented that he was fortunate to have supportive parents. In 1961, Bleckner and his family moved to a more affluent town in Hewlett Harbor, New York, where he attended George W. Hewlett High School. In 1965, Bleckner saw his first art exhibition, The Responsive Eye, at the Museum of Modern Art, which went on to have a huge impact on his artwork. Eventually, this was a time when he realized that he wanted to become an artist. Bleckner went on to study at New York University, where he studied alongside fellow artist Sol LeWitt and Chuck Close. During college, Bleckner worked in an art supply store and drove a taxi. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts (B.F.A) from New York University (1971), and later received his Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A) at California Institute of the Arts. In 1974, when Bleckner moved back to New York, he moved into a Tribeca loft building. Three of the floors were rented to the painter Julian Schnabel and from 1977 to 1983 the Mudd Club, a nightclub frequented by musicians and artists, was in the same building. In 2004 Bleckner sold the building. He held his first solo exhibition in 1975 at Cunningham Ward Gallery in New York. Then In 1979 he began what was to become a long association with Mary Boone Gallery in New York. In 1981 Bleckner met Thomas Ammann, who was an influential Swiss art dealer who went on to collect Bleckner's work. Early 1990s, Bleckner did his first abstract painting called Cell painting which showed an example of human body cell diseases. Since either the 1980s or 1990s as an openly gay artist, his art has been largely an investigation of change, loss, and memory, often addressing the subject of AIDS. Bleckner uses symbolic modernist imagery rather than direct representation, and his work is visually elusive, with forms that constantly change focus. While much of Bleckner's work can be divided into distinct groups or series with motifs repeated from painting to painting, he is also in the habit of redeploying and combining old motifs. Bleckner has posited that a painting is never finished, provided it is still in his studio, because it can always be improved. In 2009, Bleckner published a book of his theoretical art statements entitled Examined Life: Writings, 1972-2007 that was published by Edgewise Press. In 1995, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum had a major retrospective exhibition of his works from the last two decades of exhibitions at acclaimed institutions such as San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Moderna Museet in Stockholm, and the Carnegie Museum of Art. He was one of the youngest artists to be featured at the Guggenheim. Bleckner's works are held in collections around the world including Museum of Modern Art, New York, (he was included in the show Contemporary Works from the Collection, MoMA along with Carl Andre, Richard Artschwager, Marcel Broodthaers, Jim Dine, Howard Hodgkin, Jasper Johns, Donald Judd, Anish Kapoor, Ellsworth Kelly, Robert Mangold...

Large Aquatint Etching A Red Color MInimalist Abstract Etching Robert Mangold
Located in Surfside, FL
A Red, from Three Aquatints, 1979 Aquatint on six copper plates printed on Rives BFK paper Paper Size: 40 3/4 x 40 3/4 inches (103.5 x 103.5 cm); Image Size: 33 x 33 inches (83.8 x 83.8 cm) Signed and titled lower left front Edition of 50, 10 AP, 3 TP Published by Parasol Press, New York Printed by Hidekatsu Takada, assisted by David Kelso, Crown Point Press, Oakland, California Robert Mangold (born October 12, 1937) is an American minimalist artist. He is also father of film director and screenwriter James Mangold. Mangold first trained at the Cleveland Institute of Art from 1956-59, and then at Yale University, New Haven, (BFA, 1961; MFA, 1963). In 1961 he married Sylvia Plimack, and they moved to New York. In the summer of 1962 Mangold was hired as guard at the Museum of Modern Art. Mangold's work challenges the typical connotations of what a painting is or could be, and his works often appear as objects rather than images. Elements refer often to architectural elements or have the feeling architecture to them. He almost always works in extensive series, often carried through both paintings and lithograph works on paper. Mangold’s early work consisted largely of monochromatic free-standing constructions. In 1968 he began employing acrylic instead of oil painting, rolling rather than spraying it on Masonite or plywood grounds. Within the year, he moved from these more industrially oriented supports to canvas. In 1970 he began working with shaped canvases and within the year began brushing rather than spraying paint onto canvas. Mangold made his first prints in 1972 at Crown Point Press and has made prints throughout his career, working with Pace Editions and Brooke Alexander Editions. In 1965, the Jewish Museum in New York held the first major exhibition of what was called Minimal art (Minimalism) and included Robert Mangold. In 1967, he won a National Endowment for the Arts grant and in 1969, a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 1971, he had his first solo museum exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum. Major museum exhibitions of his work have since been held the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego (1974), the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam (1982), Hallen für Neue Kunst in Schaffhausen (1993), and Musée d’Orsay in Paris (2006). He has been featured in the Whitney Biennial four times, in 1979, 1983, 1985, and 2004. His work is related to Geometric Abstraction. Select Exhibitions Robert Mangold, Bruce Nauman, Richard Serra: Extended Drawing, Bonnefantenmuseum Accrochage: Donald Judd, Louise Lawler, Sol LeWitt, and Robert Mangold, Galerie Greta Meert, Carl Andre, Dan Flavin, Donald Judd, Robert Mangold, Robert Ryman, Andrea Rosen Gallery, NY Tara Donovan, Sol LeWitt, Robert Mangold, James Siena: Minimalist Prints, Augen Gallery, Portland Modulated Abstraction: Josef Albers, Carl Andre, Donald Judd, Ellsworth Kelly, Sol LeWitt, Robert Mangold, Fred Sandback, Richard Tuttle, Brooke Alexander Editions, New York, NY Drawings from the 1970’s, Mel Bochner, Robert Mangold, Robert Moskowitz, Fred Sandback, Richard Tuttle, Lawrence Markey, New York, NY Systematic: Anne Appleby...

Silver Rock Melon: A Framed 19th C. Color Engraving by George Brookshaw
Located in Alamo, CA
This is a 19th century colored aquatint and stipple engraving finished by hand entitled "Silver Rock Melon", drawn and engraved by George Brookshaw and published in London in 1812 as plate 67 in his 'Pomona Britannica; or, A Collection of the Most Esteemed Fruits'. It depicts a Silver Rock Melon still on the vine, but the melon lies on a heater green mat. A wedge of the melon has been dissected to reveal its inner anatomy, including the seeds. The melon skin is a heather and light green color, while the inner portions are a light peach color. The vine and leaves are shown attractive shades of light green and there are soft yellow flowers. The plant is displayed on a light brown textured background with shadows to impart 3-dimensionality. The scene is reminiscent of an engraving in an 18th century artistically stylized human anatomy atlas. There are wide white margins. The title and inscription lies within the lower border. This striking engraving is presented in a reddish brown decorative wood frame with a darker brown scroll-work outer trim and a gold-colored inner fillet and a thick heather green mat. The frame measures 25.75" high, 21.5" wide and 1.13" deep. It is glazed with UV conservation glass. There is a short thin vertical line of discoloration in the lower margin through the word "melon" and a tiny spot in the upper margin on the left. The print and frame are otherwise in excellent condition. There is a second Brookshaw engraving that is framed in identical moulding, although a slightly different size and a different color mat. t depicts a cluster of grapes. The two prints would make a striking display pairing...

Church at Chichicastenango
Located in Myrtle Beach, SC
Jesse F. Reed, 'Church at Chichicastenango', color etching and aquatint, 1963. Signed and titled in pencil. Signed and dated in the plate, lower right. A fine, richly-inked impression, with fresh colors, on cream wove paper; the full sheet with margins (1 3/8 to 2 1/2 inches), in excellent condition. Chichicastenango, also known as Santo Tomás Chichicastenango, is a town in the El Quiché department of Guatemala, located in a mountainous region about 140 km northwest of Guatemala City. Chichicastenango is a K'iche' Maya cultural center, with the great majority of the municipality's population indigenous Mayan K'iche. The church depicted is the 400-year-old church Iglesia de Santo Tomás. Built atop a Pre-Columbian temple platform, the steps which remain venerated today, originally led to a temple of the pre-Hispanic Maya civilization. K'iche' Maya priests still use the church for their rituals, burning incense and candles. Each of the 18 stairs that lead up to the church stands for one month of the Maya calendar year. Somewhere to Dream - still life, hand signed, Roy Fairchild
Located in London, GB
This serigraph print is for sale from Roy Fairchild's Personal Collection. This print will come with a certificate of authenticity from London Contemporary Gallery and a unique signed letter from Roy Fairchild himself authenticating the work and detailing that this is from his personal collection. Roy Fairchild-Woodard was born in 1953 in Surrey, England. He currently lives and works most of the year in the peaceful environment of his Country home. The rest of the year he travels throughout Europe; Italy in particular, to obtain new sources of inspiration. His affinity with Italy is the painters of the Renaissance, especially their frescos, tapestries and paintings. The plasterwork of the frescos is alluded to in his use of plaster as a base for his acrylic and oil overpaints. Also the influence of Egon Schiele and Gustave Klimpt can be seen in his occasional reference of line and decoration. He received a degree in graphic design and started working under the name Woodard to produce more commercial...

Spanish Artist signed limited edition original art print etching, aquatint
Located in Miami, FL
Eduardo Chillida (Spain, 1924-2002) 'Munich', 1994 etching, aquatint on paper gray Eskulan 31.5 x 23.9 in. (80 x 60.5 cm.) Edition of 119 (of which 98 correspond to the Arabic numbered edition). P/A: XX (20) Unframed ID: CHI1038-009 Hand-signed by author It appears reviewed in the catalog raisonné “Eduardo Chillida – Opus P.III. 1986-1996”, Chorus – Verlag. Page 278, cat. 94015. ____________________________________________________ He began his career in 1943 studying architecture at the University of Madrid, but in 1947 he dedicated himself to drawing and sculpture, and in 1948 he moved to Paris, then the world capital of the arts. Although he abandoned his studies, his work betrays his architectural training, showing an underlying sense of structural organization, as well as discipline in materials, planning of spatial relationships, and scale of elements. Over the years, the artist turned to materials that showed his investigations into conceptual questions and metaphysical concerns. Chillida's first stone and plaster creations oscillated between the human world and the natural world using figures and images of landscapes. Consistently guided by the quality of space, density and rhythm, his works consider ways in which mass and volume contain space. His public works, which exist on a more massive scale, not only inhabit the space but also determine a qualifying space of their own. His monumental sculptures, designed for both urban and more secluded spaces, are permanently installed internationally and constitute an important facet of his artistic production. The main retrospectives of Chillida's graphic and sculptural work have been mounted by the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston (1966); Carnegie Institute, Pittsburgh (1979); National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC (1979); Guggenheim Museum (1980); Miramar Palace, San Sebastián (1992); and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (1999). Chillida received numerous awards, including the Grand International Prize for Sculpture at the Venice Biennale (1958), the Kandinsky Prize (1960), the Carnegie Prize for Sculpture (1964), the Andrew Mellon...
