An hommage to all those immigrants who die on the journey as they seek asylum in new countries.
As a cultural activist/artist/printmaker, Juan Fuentes has dedicated his career to being part of a global movement for social change. His works address issues relating to local communities of color, social justice, and international struggles for liberation.
The turbulent times of the 70’s set the tone for Fuentes' approach to creating social art. The Chicano, African American, Middle Eastern, Asian and Native American struggles for equality, peace and justice helped shape the themes that recur in his art.
His development and introduction to silkscreen printing by mentors such as Rupert Garcia and Malaquias Montoya guided his subsequent community and political poster involvement.

I am a person made up from experiences from both of these worlds. I am Mexican but I am also American and I can slip between these two worlds with ease and exist in both simultaneously. Culture does not honor borders. Culture is about change and growth.

Working on snow scenes is always a challenge as there is no room for error keeping white paper unmarked. This is difficult because a lino block is almost empty, with few marks except the essential ones. He taught etching, screen-printing, lino and related surface printmaking at Keswick Hall College in Norfolk. I saw these Acocets on the North Norfolk coast in a wetlands just below the dunes. They are inspiring birds with a delicate beak and sophisticated wading behaviour.
Rob Barnes, artist, is available for sale online and in our art gallery at Wychwood Art. Rob Barnes studied painting and printmaking at Hull College of Art and London University in the early 1960s. He taught etching, screen-printing, lino and related surface printmaking at Keswick Hall College in Norfolk. He later moved to the University of East Anglia, Norwich where he continued teaching in the School of Education until 2006. Presently he divides his time between printmaking and his other passion, playing the violin in local orchestras and for choral performances. In 2017 he began making a small number of sterling silver jewellery pieces following a course at West Dean, Sussex. His artwork follows themes, such as light on water, or shadows in the landscape. Riverside Oystercatchers by Rob Barnes is a limited edition linocut print using a Key Block and a Reduction Block resulting in several layers of printing. This landscape was inspired by a riverside walking area in Suffolk where there are often numerous Oystercatchers. Rob was trying to achieve a strong sunset image with Oystercatcher movement highlighted across the river. He is inspired by the East Anglian coast and landscape, much of which appears in his linocut prints. Many of these show Rob’s keen interest in the use of colour blends, light on water, and graduations of tone. Rob Barnes studied painting and printmaking at Hull College of Art and London University in the early 1960s. He taught etching, screen-printing, linocut and related surface printmaking at Keswick Hall College in Norfolk. He later moved to the University of East Anglia where he continued teaching in the School of Education until 2006. He is based in South Norfolk. He has exhibited regularly in London and many of his etchings and linocuts are in private collections, here and abroad. More recently he has returned to linocuts, enjoying the strong physical nature of this medium. His linocuts are inspired mainly by the landscape of East Anglia.
