There was I time when I ached for the world. Before cell phones, before social media, I felt the urgency of environmental damage, of social injustice.
Nothing seems to have gotten better. I'm not numb to it, but in some way I've become flip, a resigned humor like a layer of scar tissue between my concerns and the abrasion all around.
Still, I was surprised how playful these paintings became.

Helen Slimp (1890 - 1995)
A Virginia native, Helen Ferne Slimp was a lifelong artist, who worked in oils, lithography, stained glass and china painting. She was a friend of Mount Rushmore sculptor Gutzam Borglum and art patron Marion Koogler McNay, painted alongside the Onderdonks and was a teacher to Porfirio Salinas.
“She liked that modern stuff,” Slimp said of McNay in the Express-News in 1990, on her 100th birthday. “I never cared for it myself. I thought an apple should look like an apple.”Chester Slimp died in 1965, but Helen Slimp lived to be 105, dying Oct. 29, 2005.
Helen Ferne Slimp's instructors were a "Who's Who" of American artists including Randall Davey, Ernest Lawson, Fremont Ellis, Gerald Cassidy, Harry Anthony De Young, and Jose Arpa.

In 1975, The New York Times commissioned Superstar artist David Byrd to create the "Manhattan Coloring Book" It was to be a coloring book for adults (That they really weren't going to color in as the drawings were very detailed.) I have included a photo in this listing of the cover of the original 1975 coloring book just as a reference it is not included in the sale. The book was to be a collectors item and a tribute to the city of New York. It sold out rather quickly and the 1975 first edition did indeed become a collectors item. It featured the most important architectural structures in New York City. We are please to offer for sale one of the original 1975 drawings by Mr. Byrd that was used in that collectible book. Rosie Emerson, born in 1981, is a contemporary artist working almost exclusively on representing the female form. Emerson’s figures draw reference from archetypes old and new, from Artemis to the modern day super model, each solitary figure, an allegory of her own fantasy. Interested in surface, the interplay between photography and painting. Emerson’s works are playful constructs; Photography is used, not as a device for capturing reality but for creating romanticised optical illusions.
Inspired by her love of theatre, performance, shrines and rituals, she uses lighting, costume, set and prop making, alongside printmaking and painting to create other worldly one off pieces. Her photography is inspired by both the drama of the baroque, and ethereal qualities of Pre Raphaelite works. Other important influences include late medieval and renaissance paintings, Japanese prints, and magical realist literature.
