Debbie Harry, Red Salute, 1978
Located in White Plains, NY
'Debbie Harry, Red Salute,' 1978 by famed American photographer, Allan Tannenbaum. Archival pigment print, 10 x 15 inch photo on 17 x 22 inch on the finest satin photo paper, Ed. of 50. This photograph was taken at Tannenbaum's studio. From the artists' 4th hardcover book 'Grit and Glamour: The Street Style, High Fashion, and Legendary Music of the 1970s,' published in 2016. This color photograph was taken by Tannenbaum during his tenure at The SoHo Weekly News in New York City from 1973 to 1982 where he served as Chief Photographer and Photo Editor. Allan Tannenbaum's career in photography spans more than four decades. Born in Passaic, New Jersey, in 1945, he received a B.A. in Art from Rutgers University in 1967, where he photographed for The Targum – the campus newspaper – and made films for his art courses. Gravitating to the nascent art scene in the SoHo district of Manhattan in 1972, Tannenbaum worked as a taxi driver and bartender while looking for work as a photographer. In 1973, when the SoHo Weekly News commenced publication, Tannenbaum became the Photo Editor and Chief Photographer. The newspaper started out as an eight-page free paper, but soon became a popular newsstand seller that rivaled the established Village Voice. Tannenbaum relentlessly covered the art world, music scene, politics, show business, and nightlife until 1982 when the SoHo News folded. Tannenbaum has also done documentary and feature photography in places like Thailand, Indonesia, Palau, Jordan, Bahrain, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Brazil, Israel, Iceland, and Mexico. He has covered numerous political campaigns, nominating conventions and news stories in the U.S. such as the Oklahoma City bombing and the Columbine massacre. His work has appeared in many photo books and exhibitions, as well as appearing regularly in NEWSWEEK, TIME, LIFE, ROLLING STONE, PARIS MATCH, and STERN. His photographs have graced the covers of TIME three times, and NEWSWEEK five times. He now works as an international photojournalist contributing to various noted publications including Time, Life, and Newsweek. He is the author of three other books of his photography, including New York in the 70s (Feierabend, 2003), New York (Feierabend, 2004), and John and Yoko: A New York Love Story...

Float, Lava Hot Springs, Idaho
Located in Hudson, NY
Black and White, Women, Water, Lance Clayton, outdoors, nature, hand, idaho, hot springs, b&w, woman, water Listing is for UNFRAMED print. Inquire within for framing. Edition of 10. If the exhibition piece is sold or the customer orders a different print size, the photograph is produced upon purchase. Please allow two weeks for production. Shipping time depends on method of shipping. Price is subject to availability. The Robin Rice Gallery reserves the right to adjust this price depending on the current edition of the photograph. ABOUT: In this exhibition, Lance Clayton’s aquatic, figurative photographs contain an attention to detail that leaves the viewer constantly discovering new information within them. His oblique compositions are a profusion of the quirky, the surreal, and the ambiguous, all of which are permeated by a haunting presence. Rather than presenting a factual reality, an illusion is fabricated to conjure the realms of our imagination. The invitational image, “Swim”, is an illustrative shot of a man doing the butterfly stroke, his back to the viewer with arms powerfully extended across the frame, as if to embrace the open, infinite skies above him. The grainy quality of the piece is created using a dark room technique in which tissue is layered upon the photograph, creating an allover ethereal atmosphere reminiscent of Edward Steichen’s early work. Another image, “Rungs”, photographed in Lake Okeechobee, Florida, shows a rusty silver pool ladder descending into a vista of midnight blue water. The highlights and reflections in the water, however, resemble the night sky and thereby disorient the viewer’s perspective. The piece entitled "Kim, Orem, Utah” expresses some of Clayton’s more hauntingly sensual themes. The photograph displays a woman floating in a pool, her darkly lit face above the water and her serpentine body below. The sinister, yet lyrical, mood of the photograph is largely emblematic of the entire collection exhibited. Clayton’s inspiration is primarily grounded in dreams, with references to notable artists such as Diane Arbus, George Hurrell, and Duane Michaels...

Tiny Surfers in the Celtic Sea, Polzeath, England, UK, 2010
Located in Hudson, NY
Listing is for UNFRAMED print. Inquire within for framing. Edition 2 of 10 After 30 years on West 11th Street, The Robin Rice Gallery celebrates its first ever exhibition for Robin Rice. For decades, Robin has exhibited a wide variety of photographers at the gallery but never her own work. As the show’s title denotes, “It’s About Time.” The opening reception will be held on Wednesday, January 23rd from 6pm to 8pm. The exhibit runs through March 17, 2019. While her photography spans five decades and multiple continents, Rice maintains a cohesive, candid voice that carries throughout all of her work. Observing the world around her in a cinematic way, she possesses an uncanny ability to recognize and capture moments of beauty and the spontaneity of the human spirit. By evoking a wonderstruck sensibility, Rice expresses a deep-rooted love for both people and landscapes using her distinct bohemian style. In this salon-style retrospective, Rice uses an “old school” approach and shoots with her Nikon on Tri-X film. When creating her art, she insists, “the camera has a mind of its own.” The scenes captured in her photography are unedited and thus born purely from the magic of the in-camera composition. In the invitational image, “Tree Farm, Long Lane, East Hampton, NY”, 1999, a naked woman wearing nothing but a large straw hat is captured from behind, centered between a long line of trees on either side, as she bikes down the lane. In another image, “Bubbles, Piazza Rondanini, Roma”, 1995, friends linger before a vine-covered building, extending their arms up in joyful wonder, catching bubbles descending from above. Receiving her first camera at the age of 11, she has since been an avid fine art photographer. After moving from Philadelphia to New York in 1976, Rice was immediately swept up in the electrifying, fast-paced art world of the city. In 1977, Discoworld Magazine hired her to photograph the opening night of Studio 54. After enjoying 23 years of success as a commercial photographer, she shifted her career to become a gallerist, opening The Robin Rice Gallery in 1990. Curating 175 shows, Robin developed her own “school” of artists, cultivating a keen eye for curating and in doing so enriching the aesthetic of her own fine art photography. Despite devoting much of her energy to the gallery, Rice has never stopped creating her own art, and has exhibited in several galleries nationally and abroad. Influenced by photographer and gallerist Alfred Stieglitz, who curated the art of others and exhibited his own work, Rice is ready to showcase her photography on her own turf. In her spare time, Robin has recently taken up DJing: you can often find DJ Redshoes spinning vinyl at her loft in Beacon. Surfers, Surfing, Men, Women...

Not trying to show a subject for what it is, but for what it expresses. This is my way of telling stories, of translating my sensibility”. J-M. Lenoir A passion for nature from an early age led Lenoir to photography as a means to capture magical moments of nature and wildlife. Starting with wildlife and wide spaces, he developed his own vision of photography. Landscape photography is an eternal quest for atmosphere where the light and the quest of beauty are key references, his aesthetic landmark. His photographic intention relies on his magnetic attraction for wide spaces combined with his quest of beautiful lights. A way that inspires him and his instinct of freedom. In photography, he is looking for simple pictures, which go straight to the subject core, with very few things in the frame. Lenoir follows a suggestive approach: he does not try to show a subject as it is, but to share what it expresses. It is his way of telling stories and conveying his sensibility, like his recent work “Evanescence”. Combining his passion for pictures with rugged landscapes, he organizes and guides photo tours with Photographes du Monde agency for seven years. From north of Europe (Scotland, Norway, Finland) to South america (Chile and Bolivia),his photographic world leads him into areas of wilderness from where he draws his main source of inspiration. Archival pigment print (Edition of 5 + 2 APs) Signed and numbered on label, verso This photograph is offered by ClampArt, located in New York City. Frances F. Denny writes: “During the research process for a prior series of photographs, I discovered two related facts about my family tree: a) Mary Bliss Parsons, my 8th great-grandmother, was accused of witchcraft in 1674 in Northampton, Massachusetts, and b) less than two decades later in 1692, my 10th great-grandfather, Samuel Sewell, presided as a judge in the Salem Witch Trials. One body of work came and went, but this ancestral coincidence stayed with me. What is a witch? Who does that word belong to—now? “Major Arcana: Witches in America is a collection of portraits of women from across the United States who identify as witches. As early as 15th-century Europe, people condemned as witches faced a cruel fate: torture, and in many cases, death. Yet despite its history, recent decades have seen a reclaiming of the word ‘witch.’ In the mid-20th century, emerging pagan communities in the United States and Europe began embracing the term, and since then, ‘witch’ has been adopted by a diverse group of people. “Major Arcana explores the various ways the notion of witch-ness belongs to those who claim it, representing the witch as a self-sought identity that both empowers and politicizes its bearer. Each woman photographed for Major Arcana (including genderfluid and trans individuals) pursues a form of witchcraft, whether aligned with a religion (like Wicca or Voudou) or a self-defined practice. No two individuals inhabit the term ‘witch’ in quite the same way, but many consider themselves pagan, and engage in a diversity of traditions, including: mysticism, engagement with the occult, politically-oriented activism, polytheism, ritualized ‘spell-craft,’ and plant-based healing. Among those included in the series are self-proclaimed green witches, white witches, kitchen witches...
