About the Item
"The Faun" (2005)
By Anna Pennati
Inspired by Lord Byron
Italian artist Anna Pennati explores the mythological and sensual dimensions of Romantic poetry in this captivating 2005 mixed media work. Measuring 34.5 x 24.5 cm, this piece draws from Lord Byron's evocative imagery, bringing the figure of the faun—part human, part beast—into visual reality.
The faun represents untamed nature, pastoral beauty, and the primal forces that fascinated Romantic poets. In Byron's verse, such mythological creatures embody the tension between civilization and wildness, reason and passion. Pennati's interpretation captures this duality through her layered mixed media approach, creating depth and texture that suggest the faun's liminal existence between worlds.
This work showcases Pennati's distinctive ability to translate literary symbolism into compelling visual narratives. The intimate format invites personal contemplation of the mythological figure and its enduring significance in art and literature. Perfect for collectors who appreciate the intersection of classical mythology, Romantic literature, and contemporary artistic vision. The piece will be shipped with protective matting, ready for custom framing to complement any collection.

Sun of the sleepless! Melancholy star!
Whose tearful beam glows tremulosy far,
That show’st the darkness thou canst not dispel,
How like art thou to joy remember’d well!
So gleams the past, the light of other days,
Which shines, but warms not with its powerless
rays;
A night-beam Sorrow watcheth to behold,
Distinct, but distant-clear-but, oh how cold!
George Byron – ( Sun of the sleepless )

Born in Milan, from an early age Anna showed an innate attraction to drawing and colors. After graduating (Maestra d'Arte) from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, she began her career in the lively and stimulating Milanese art scene. Her works were immediately received with enthusiasm by critics and the market.
Never satisfied with success, Anna Pennati ceaselessly continued her personal and artistic journey in search of the perfect synthesis.
She thus went through various stylistic phases: a draughts woman of rare skill, she soon broke away from the academic style to approach forms and colors where the graphic layout dominated the scene, with distortions of the figure that slowly tried to free itself.
There followed a phase in which the work was born from the canvas. In other words, the initial application of color was followed by the recognition of shapes and figures that the artist slowly brought to the surface from the depths of her mind.
In 2001 she participated in the Artexpo in New York and subsequently worked in London. The Artspace Galleries, Mayfair, one of the most prestigious art venues in the English capital, was her reference point/ address for that period.
In Milan she met Valery Giscard D'Estaing, former French president; a man of refined culture, who bought one of the portraits Anna Pennati dedicated to him.
Anna Pennati is an artist addressed to the international art world, in her 25-year career she has participated in over 50 exhibitions in private galleries and museum spaces, including the Museum of Capuchin Cultural Heritage of Assisi, Miart in Milan, Artspace Galleries in London and the Northwest Sezession in Wilhelmshaven (Germany).
Pennati cleverly switches from one subject to another with great range, from time to time using a style and a technique more appropriate to the particular purpose she sets. In general, her preferred medium is acrylic on canvas, which makes the strong signs prevail, alongside color, which is the absolute protagonist of her semi abstract paintings.
In the latest works, forms, colors and lines continuously chase each other, sometimes "collaborating," sometimes "excluding" each other to arrive at artworks where the research is aimed at the archetype of ideas. The works are thus the essential expression of thought and dialogue with the viewer both visually, and mentally, allowing themselves to be slowly perceived.
