About the Item
"So, We'll Go No More a Roving" (2005)
By Anna Pennati
Inspired by Lord Byron
Italian artist Anna Pennati gives visual expression to one of Lord Byron's most poignant and beloved poems in this contemplative 2005 mixed media work. Measuring 34.5 x 24.5 cm, this piece captures the melancholic beauty of Byron's meditation on love, youth, and the passage of time.
Byron's poem speaks to the bittersweet recognition that passion must eventually yield to wisdom—that "the heart be still as loving, and the moon be still as bright," yet weary souls must cease their restless wandering. Pennati translates this romantic resignation into visual form, creating layers of meaning through her mixed media technique that mirror the poem's emotional depth.
The work exemplifies Pennati's talent for literary interpretation, transforming verse into image while maintaining the emotional resonance of the original text. The intimate scale encourages close viewing and personal reflection, inviting collectors to engage with Byron's timeless themes of love, loss, and maturity. This piece is ideal for admirers of Romantic literature and those who appreciate art that bridges the written and visual realms. Shipped with protective matting for custom framing.

So, we’ll go no more a roving
So late into the night,
Though the heart be still as loving,
And the moon be still as bright.
For the sword outwears its sheath,
And the soul wears out the breast,
And the heart must pause to breathe,
And love itself have rest.
Though the night was made for loving,
And the day returns too soon,
Yet we’ll go no more a roving
By the light of the moon.

Born in Milan, from an early age Anna showed an innate attraction to drawing and colors. After graduating (Maestra d'Arte) from the Brera Academy of Fine Arts, she began her career in the lively and stimulating Milanese art scene. Her works were immediately received with enthusiasm by critics and the market.
Never satisfied with success, Anna Pennati ceaselessly continued her personal and artistic journey in search of the perfect synthesis.
She thus went through various stylistic phases: a draughts woman of rare skill, she soon broke away from the academic style to approach forms and colors where the graphic layout dominated the scene, with distortions of the figure that slowly tried to free itself.
There followed a phase in which the work was born from the canvas. In other words, the initial application of color was followed by the recognition of shapes and figures that the artist slowly brought to the surface from the depths of her mind.
In 2001 she participated in the Artexpo in New York and subsequently worked in London. The Artspace Galleries, Mayfair, one of the most prestigious art venues in the English capital, was her reference point/ address for that period.
In Milan she met Valery Giscard D'Estaing, former French president; a man of refined culture, who bought one of the portraits Anna Pennati dedicated to him.
Anna Pennati is an artist addressed to the international art world, in her 25-year career she has participated in over 50 exhibitions in private galleries and museum spaces, including the Museum of Capuchin Cultural Heritage of Assisi, Miart in Milan, Artspace Galleries in London and the Northwest Sezession in Wilhelmshaven (Germany).
Pennati cleverly switches from one subject to another with great range, from time to time using a style and a technique more appropriate to the particular purpose she sets. In general, her preferred medium is acrylic on canvas, which makes the strong signs prevail, alongside color, which is the absolute protagonist of her semi abstract paintings.
In the latest works, forms, colors and lines continuously chase each other, sometimes "collaborating," sometimes "excluding" each other to arrive at artworks where the research is aimed at the archetype of ideas. The works are thus the essential expression of thought and dialogue with the viewer both visually, and mentally, allowing themselves to be slowly perceived.
