About the Item
With the distinctive medium of post-it notes, Özmenoğlu re-contextualizes everyday objects from something ordinary to a beautiful work of art. The individualized behavior of each post-it note results in a unique mosaic-like effect with some pieces curling upwards, creating shadows and revealing the original color. This is a unique piece mixed media artwork done by using post-it notes, silk screen, and painting.
Ardan Ozmenoglu is a mixed-media contemporary artist characterized by her original use of medium, design, and content. Since her first exhibition in 2006, her work has been featured in over forty exhibitions in the USA and abroad including Istanbul, Basel, Berlin, London, and Milan. Her works can also be found in important collections internationally such as the Frankfurt Airport Collection, Osthaus Museum Hagen Collection, Kala Art Institute Collection, Borusan Contemporary Art Collection, UniCredit Bank Art Collection, and the Istanbul Modern Collection amongst others.
Through her clever use of post-it notes, Ozmenoglu creates pieces of art that are infused with sociopolitical commentary, uniting seemingly opposing ideas: the past and present, art history and contemporary art trends, creativity and consumerism, repetition and individuality. The post-its emphasize the duality exhibited in her work, particularly the concepts of unity and fragmentation. The images are whole yet fragmented and conversely, they are fragmented but also whole. Her work bridges the gap between centuries old practice printing with modern colors, glitters, paper, and images. Her bold and evocative art forces the viewer to consider everyday objects in a different light thus predicting the whole from pieces, supplying an undetermined dimension, and keeping the attention. The spectrum of vision between her works and the viewer is complex, ranging from the largely irrelevant to the highly specific. She never confines herself to any criteria, principles, limits, or boundaries when choosing a subject or medium to work on.

Planete
Located in San Francisco, CA
Artist: Paul Van Hoeydonck – Belgian (1925 - )
Title: Planete
Year: 1961
Medium: Mixed media
Size: 48 x 48 inches.
Signature: Signed, dated, titled on the reverse
Condition: Good
This mid century work by Paul Van Hoeydonck is a direct and strong composition, like so many of Van Hoeydonck’s Planete works. It measures 48” x 48” and is a mixed media composition. It is a composition on masonite or a similar material. There is flat black and gloss black paint. Perhaps the gloss is lacquer. The surface is highly textured. The black areas have small finish nails, lying flat, attached to the surface. The other areas have sand or some other particulate in the paint. It is signed, titled and dated on the reverse. The date looks like “1961” but it could be “1969.” Please see pictures. Stylistically, this work looks very much like his work from 1961-1962. The piece is in good condition. There is a faint scratch in the upper left and some very small chips on the edges. Please see pictures. There also might be very, very light surface dirt throughout.
Please refer to the artist's website as well as Whitford Gallery for extensive biographies of the artist.
