'Mysterious' 2018 by American artist Barbara Hirsch. Encaustic, oil, rice paper, and copper on wood panel, 12 x 36 in. / 12 x 12 (each) in. This abstract work features 3 mini sculptural, mixed media works painted in grey, yellow, and beige on wood panel.
Barbara Hirsch incorporates textural encaustic infused with oils to create depth and repeating motifs that are inspired by nature. Encaustics have allowed Hirsch to manipulate the natural world by using diverse materials including wax, rice paper and found objects. Inspired by the natural beauty and seasonal patterns in her Aspen home, the artist effortlessly creates a compelling narrative of color, imagery, and composition.
In 2012, Barbara Hirsch was selected as one of the southeast’s best emerging artists in the prestigious Energen Art Show in Birmingham. She was awarded Best in Show in 1971 and 1972 at the Birmingham Museum of Art; and in 1973 after her work premiered to a sold out show, her career in commissioned art began.
