About the Item

Artist Comments
Embossed papers and layers of acrylic paint create a textured landscape. Artist Brit J Oie notes that the last colors of fall linger before winter sets in. High mountains are already bare, but the warmth of autumn remains in the valley. The composition celebrates the time of thanksgiving for the beauty and nourishment we receive from our natural environment.

About the Artist
Artist Brit J Oie grew up in a small town on the west coast of Norway, where nature was her playground and creativity a way of life. "The men in my family were woodworkers, and the women did knitting, sewing, and weaving," says Brit. She began her artistic journey as a weaver in Norway, but after marrying an American and moving to the U.S., she transitioned to painting and pursued further studies in Fine Art. In 1998, Brit earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of North Carolina, marking a shift in her creative path. During her senior exhibition, she developed a unique mixed-media technique, blending embossed papers and acrylic paint—an evolution of the styles she had mastered. Today, Brit works in a light-filled studio in Asheville's River Arts District, with her art featured in private collections across the U.S. and Norway, as well as the University of North Carolina, Asheville. Outside the studio, she enjoys hiking, gardening, relaxing in outdoor hot springs, and taking in the river view.
