About the Item
This is an original painting on glazed tile by Southern California artist, Cheryl Tall. Its dimensions are 8.8" x 10.8" x 1.5". It is framed as pictured. A certificate of authenticity will follow delivery.
In the style of “magic realism”, Tall's work uses color and texture to create a surrealistic wonderland that touches on our search for meaning, connection and place. The artist’s inspiration from both contemporary and ancient art is evident in her works; myths and dream imagery are a recurring theme. Her subject matter often includes architectural and figurative elements. Many of her paintings depict full scenes of activity, with a cast of several characters and multiple interactions happening at once. The way that individuals – neighbors, lovers, extended families, and community members – interrelate with each other is a visual and thematic focus in her works. These crucial social bonds, which drive everyday life, are emphasized and celebrated.

"Muse of Transition", Encaustic, Oil, and Paper on Wood
Located in Detroit, MI
Celebrating our common colors as well as our diversity is Linden Godlove’s latest series of encaustics, “The Muses.” The paintings are modeled after icons, with a direct gaze that hearkens a response to their spirit, to find company in their character. This particular piece is the "Muse of Transition" and is part of a set of nine that are sold separately from one another.
Encaustic painting is an ancient art form (some early icons are encaustic), where hot wax is mixed with pigment and resin, and painted while liquid. Throughout the process, everything is repeatedly fused with fire and sometimes things melt in an unintended direction. Linden’s process involves repeatedly carving parts out and filling them back in, so the works are splayed out in a loose application of hot liquid, then cut back, then washed over with brushes of hot wax again. It’s a combination of chaos and control.
The series draws inspiration from women all over the globe, as originally photographed by Mihaela Noroc for her book The Atlas of Beauty. A portion of the proceeds from these sales will go towards her project.
While internationally influenced, the pieces were painted, scraped, and carved at the artist’s hundred year old Detroit...

'Persistence' mixed media on aluminum. Proceeds to aid Ukrainian refugees.
Located in Milwaukee, WI
'Persistence' is an original mixed media painting on rough-cut aluminum by American artist and appraiser Kelly Butenhoff. In the image, Butenhoff shows a yellow figure against a blue background; however, the painting is even more about the material of paint and metal than it is about figuration. Recalling the figurative paintings of Abstract Expressionist Willem de Kooning, the work is constructed of built-up textured layers, their rough surface mirrored by the irregular border of the aluminum sheet support.
These same colors are seen in the Ukrainian flag. Yellow and blue represent Ukraine’s wheat fields below the blue skies and mountains. All proceeds of this sale will be donated to help Ukrainian refugees.

After studying abroad, Kelly graduated from Carroll College, Waukesha, Wisconsin, with a BFA in Fine Art and Commercial Art. Her career in the art world began with the prestigious David Barnett Gallery in Wisconsin. Simultaneously exploring her own artistic accomplishments and gallery pursuits, eventually brought Kelly to Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, and Studio E Gallery in 2001 where she held the position of Gallery Director for eleven years while launching her endeavor of concierge fine art and appraisal services. Never one to rest on her laurels, Kelly appeased an interest in appraising by attending the School of Continuing and Professional Studies at NYU, completing the intensive Art Appraising and Connoisseurship Program in 2004. These studies and internships have included in-depth research and documentation of fine and decorative arts. Courses, workshops, and seminars on fine art, decorative art, American silver 1800-1940, estate jewelry, 18th, and 19th-century furniture, and IRS legal guidelines. Her training took place in such esteemed locations as Sotheby’s, Doyle’s Auction House, Swann Auction Galleries, Hirschl & Adler, Beauvais Carpet...
