About the Item
This work, created using the molded lacquer technique, has a solid and square form coated with natural lacquer. Bright yellow blossoms bloom vividly across the surface, radiating with the brilliance of midsummer sunlight and creating a powerful sense of vitality. The red rim, decorated with woven patterns, echoes the flowers’ golden hues, emphasizing the harmony between nature and craftsmanship. Through this floral vessel, Chih Wei Liang transforms traditional lacquer into a contemporary language, presenting the lush spirit of a southern summer while balancing classical refinement with modern aesthetics.
Liang is a leading contemporary lacquer artist in Taiwan, known for combining traditional molded lacquer and natural urushi with modern design. A member of both the China Arts and Crafts Society and the Beijing Arts and Crafts Society, he has served as artist-in-residence at the National Taiwan Craft Research and Development Institute and was registered in 2022 as a preserver of lacquer craft.
The work comes with the lacquer board shown in the photos.
