About the Item
Her artwork is inspired by American computer programmer and mathematician Dorothy Vaughan. Making significant contribution to the early U.S. space program, she was also the first Black American supervisor at NACA. A role she would continue to hold up to and beyond its merger with NASA's diverse workforce. A brilliant, dedicated, trailblazing pioneer, she represents what is possible with guts, determination and an indomitable spirit.

Chloe McCarrick is a London‑and-Paris‑based fine art photographer and mixed-media printmaker known for her luminous cyanotypes celebrating female pioneers in science, natural history, mythology, and culture. Combining traditional lensless photographic processes with digital collage, metallic leaf embellishment, and archival paper, her work merges historical reverence with contemporary artistic innovation. Drawing inspiration from trailblazing women—Ada Lovelace, Katherine Johnson, Marie Curie, Bessie Coleman—McCarrick spends months in meticulous research, translating each subject’s legacy into haunting, painterly silhouettes in Prussian blue. The cyanotype process itself is a tribute to 19th‑century botanist Anna Atkins, underlining McCarrick’s commitment to elevating forgotten stories through feminist-aligned, analog techniques. A former lecturer in photography and interactive media whose DIY camera-kit experiments began in childhood, McCarrick honed her craft with academic and studio rigor. She’s run workshops and pioneered fresh printmaking methods, layering UV-exposed imagery with gold, copper, and zinc leaf to sculpt textured, multi-dimensional narratives. McCarrick’s work has been showcased internationally—including at Le Salon des Beaux‑Arts (Paris), Affordable Art Fair (London, New York), and The Other Art Fair (London, Los Angeles)—and is held in private and public collections, including the permanent archive of Le Salon des Beaux‑Arts Foundation. Her practice engages interior design and fine art spaces alike; each piece invites viewers into an immersive dialogue with forgotten heroes, forging connections across time, science, and feminine strength.
