About the Item

Chris Wood’s "Scabious" is a dichroic glass light sculpture that radiates a mesmerizing interplay of color, light, and movement. The circular arrangement of glass elements reflects and refracts light, creating an ever-changing, iridescent display that shifts as the viewer moves. This contemporary kinetic artwork transforms with the ambient lighting, making it a striking addition to collections of modern optical art, geometric light installations, and minimalist sculpture. The delicate balance of structure and fluidity invites contemplation, evoking a hypnotic sense of harmony and depth. Chris Wood uses a range of high and low-tech optical materials to harness patterns of light that suggest ephemeral glimpses of moments in the natural world. Her minimalist sculptures are simple arrangements creating kinetic patterns in response to the environments in which they are placed. The artist uses a material called dichroic (meaning “two color”) acrylic, which was developed by NASA in the 1950's. Dichroic acrylic has a special optical coating meant to reflect certain wavelengths of light while letting others through, creating beautiful projections of light and color depending on the environment in which the artwork is placed. This large 40-inch square sculptural artwork is created with meticulous attention to light and shape. Dichroic acrylic is fastened to the white fabricated aluminum panel in patterns that change depending on the light. This artwork is signed by Wood on the back of the aluminum panel. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and International shipping options. This artwork comes with a certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery. Wood's kinetic artworks change depending on the environment in which they are placed. Under different lighting circumstances, her work can project varying colorful shapes and patterns. This artwork can be hung in any direction, allowing it to bend and filter light in unique and beautiful ways. Chris Wood was born in 1954 in Newcastle. Wood studied furniture design at Middlesex University in London before switching her focus to glass at the Royal College of Art, where she worked on architectural scale projects dealing with light and space. Her work is represented in a number of private collections worldwide as well as the Shanghai Museum of Glass. Corporate collectors include Fendi Fashion House, Great Ormond Street Hospital, Rosie Maternity Hospital, Premier Inn Hotel, and a Scandinavian cruise ship. Sujoon - Cornflower Portal - Large Lightweight Three-Dimensional Wall Sculpture
By Atticus Adams
Located in Los Angeles, CA
Atticus Adams' organically composed modern metal sculptures embody the transformative power of contemporary art, illustrating the creation of beauty, meaning, and emotional impact from industrial materials. Using mostly aluminum mesh—generally found in screen doors, windows, and filters—he creates contemporary abstract sculptural artworks and installations, which resemble flowers, clouds, and other natural phenomena. Working in metal, Adams effortlessly transforms rigid material into airy, effervescent artworks. This 48-inch high by 44-inch wide and 4-inch deep metal sculpture is a lightweight form. It is created from aluminum and copper mesh, gesso, acrylic paint, and wire. It has metal rings affixed on the back which allows for easy installation. Atticus works spontaneously, feeling his way toward the objects that take shape in his mind as he shapes them almost entirely by hand. Free local Los Angeles area delivery. Affordable Continental U.S. and worldwide shipping. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included. Atticus grew up in West Virginia, steeped in traditional folk art. Several members of his family are self-taught artists, deeply involved in such crafts as wood carving and quilting. His formal art training includes stints at Yale, Rhode Island School of Design, and Harvard’s School of Architecture. Atticus has fond summer memories of screened-in porches back home and screen doors that practically dissolved the barrier between inside and outside, allowing the warmth and nature to permeate each day. This association continues to resonate in his art. “Metal mesh is a beautiful, flexible material that allows you to explore shadow and transparency in endless ways,” he says. “The material lends itself to these biomorphic shapes, which aren’t necessarily intentional . . . The sculptures seem fragile but are actually quite resilient—like nature itself.” A well-known sculptor, the organically inspired artworks of Atticus Adams are held in public and private collections and are exhibited in galleries and museums across the United States.
