Daisy Cook is a British painter of landscape and still life.
Cook creates abstracted paintings that take landscape as their subject without being explicitly topographical or descriptive. In fact, the meeting points of land, sea and sky have long been a focus for her. There is a subtlety of surface and depth, texture and light. Her landscapes are quiet and contemplative interpretations of natural environments and her interiors are equally as experiential, created by dragging, dripping and pouring oil paint that is rich in earth pigments. In all her work, Cook looks for new methods to build tensions between shapes, with the paintings made slowly and revealing themselves over time. Some areas are ambiguous and veiled, others clear and sharp. The experience of motherhood, ‘the most tender thing I’ve ever felt’, has undoubtedly fed into her work, as well as having focused and polarized her studio activity.
'Through a suggestion of silvery clouds and mudflat she evokes a littoral: not a specific view or portrait of a place, but a larger statement about this type of country as a habitat for the spirit, a place where the imagination may soar. Photographs are used as reference, but the key energy of these paintings resides in Cook's singular ability to recognize and identify the extraordinary in the ordinary. Her particular quality of recognition breathes through these images, animating them. Intuition and chance play their part, but they would be inert without the guiding principle of the artist's vision.'
Andrew Lambirth, May 2006
'Cook aims at capturing the experience of being in a particular landscape or of swimming in its waters. Her paintings resemble thresholds, veils of colour and light filtered through a memory.'

Cook's works are in the collection of the Bank of England, Heckfield Place; La Caixa Bank; Majorca One Aldwych; Manhattan Loft Corporation; The Great Eastern Hotel; Hoffman Investment Management; and the Royal Free Hospital, London. Stephen Buckley is a British abstract artist.
Buckley was born in Leicester. He studied Fine Art under Richard Hamilton at Kings College, Durham University (1962-1967), where he was involved in the reconstruction of Marcel Duchamp's "Large Glass", and then at the University of Reading (1967-1979) under Terry Frost and Claude Rodgers.
A group of notable commissions in the early 1970s, from clients including Leith's Restaurant, gave Buckley a strong start to his career. These were followed by a solo exhibtion in Milan in 1973 and another at Kettle's Yard the following year. Solo shows were subsequently held at the Museum of Modern Art, Oxford (1975), Waddington Galleries (1976), Arnolfini Gallery, Bristol (1977), and Arts Council of Northern Ireland (1985) among many others.
His teaching career began at Canterbury College of Art (1969-70), before heading to Leeds, The Royal College of Art, and nine years at the Chelsea School of Art (1971-80). He was Artist in Residence at Kings College, Cambridge from 1972-74. In 1994, Buckley was appointed Professor of Fine Art at the University of Reading and Professor Emeritus in 2009. A monograph on Buckley was published in 1989, written by Marco Livingstone. His work has been compared to that of Richard Smith.
The work of Buckley is part of public collections and museums worldwide, including the British Council, Government Art, Kettle's Yard, Aberdeen Gallery, Berwick-upon-Tweed Borough Museum and Art Gallery, BUPA House, City Art Gallery, Bristol, City Art Gallery, Huddersfield, Derby Museum and Art Gallery, Leicester Museum, National Art Gallery of Wales, Cardiff, Reading Museum, Southampton City Art Gallery, Swindon Museum and Art Gallery, Tate Britain, London, Victoria and Albert Museum, London, Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester. Begga D’Haese, "Untitled" Pink Collage (c.2005)
Located in London, England
A beautiful, geometric yet delicate collage, primarily of aged parchment and pink dye, on wood.
This piece is one of few examples of D'Haese's (1934-2023), in collage. Known primarily for her tongue in cheek large-scale marble sculptures. This piece is more contemplative. Playing with ideas of the 70s, and onwards, influenced by Agnes Martin and the like, this piece is directly playing with the feminine.
Delicate semi-circles lift from the ground divided into four quadrants, sometimes plain, sometimes heavily textured. The composition is complex yet undeniably playful. Different relationships are developed between each of the semi-circles, as well as amongst the complete whole, resulting in the harmonious total.
Extremely compelling, and neutral for almost any space. The piece is in an acrylic box...
