Daniel Voelker
Marylin Monroe - Unique piece

2015

About the Item

This piece of art is made of 3003 stamps. In Stamp Mosaics different narrative strands are linked. The individual postage stamps represent important historical events as well as portraits of prominent persons or depictions from various fields such as art, sports, architecture or science. Furthermore, the postmark provides information about the point of origin. Eternal mystery behind the stamps is the content of the letters as well as their senders and receivers. The story continues with the places that the letters have traversed or the people who have touched them. From the distance, the stamp mosaics merge into large-format portraits. They show public figures like Steve McQueen or Marylin Monroe. Each person represents different values, and has an individual life story. Not only is the postage stamp language forgotten due to the omnipresence of the electronic transmission of information, but handwritten letters and postage stamps will certainly die out. The sum of the individual steps of the ritual of letter writing makes the letter a sign of appreciation and time. The emotions hiding behind the letters on the paper and the authenticity associated with it is missed by Voelker in todays emails or WhatsApp messages etc.. In Stamp Mosaic the postage stamps mime digital pixels. Voelker assembles stamp by stamp by hand with much effort and care. Thereby the artist reproduces the photograph, which served him as a template. Voelker, who has worked for many years as a fashion and portrait photographer, denounces the fast pace of todays photography, especially the commercial photography . “I want to create something with a long term duration that is not forgotten a week later. Nowadays anyone who picks up a digital camera calls himself a photographer. The craft is not valued anymore, because the images are processed afterwards to 99.9 %. Thus the photography loses it’s quality and authenticity“ claims Voelker. In Daniel Voelker’s Stamp Mosaics the photography regains it’s uniqueness. The artist combines it with a different technique, which is distinctive in the contemporary photo-realistic portraiture: the postage stamp mosaic.

Balloon, Photography, Story teller, Hollywood, horizon
By Tyler Shields
Located in München, BY
Edition of 3 More sizes on request. A girl with a balloon is flying into the horizon. Tyler Shields is an American Photographer, screenwriter, director and former professional inline skater who has been labeled by some as “Hollywood’s favorite photographer”. He is best known for his unparalleled, controversial, shock evoking photographs of Hollywood Celebrities. Shield’s images often incorporate violence and eroticism, such as his 2011 photograph of Lindsay Lohan in which she appears seductive while being covered in blood and holding a knife. Continuing to push the boundaries, in preparation for his Life Is Not A Fairytale (2011) exhibit in 2011, Shields collected blood from twenty celebrities to paint with, onto a canvas. Shields also appeared to stage the “shooting” of a party-goer with a gun the same year at a release party for his book “Collisions” as an appropriated piece of performance art en homage to the cans of Fluxus artist, Piero Manzoni. Shields is not shy to controversy, in 2012 he also released a photograph of Francesca Eastwood, burning, sawing and biting a $100,000 Hermès Birkin Bag for a photoshoot. Moreover, his series “Suspense” (2013) portrays and depicts stars such as Emma Roberts, Francesca Eastwood and Lydia Hearst frozen in mid-air falling and voluntarily jumping off buildings and bridges creating a sense of movement, adrenaline, and excitement. “Suspense is not about death; it’s about life” explains Shields. Rather than focusing on the person in the frame, these images are more concerned with the action, environment, and landscape. In 2015. Shields created the series “Historical Fiction” which focuses on historical events such as the deaths of James Dean, John F Kennedy, Dr. Martin Luther King among many more historical events. This series put the American Civil Rights Era at the forefront of his work, as these images explore dark moments in history with many of them honing in on moments that confront the country’s racist past. Furthermore, in 2015 Shields created his hit series “Chromatics” which surrounds the theme of “beauty in chaos” captured through freeze frames of surreal, technicolor violence with colored powder. In order to create this violence, he lined up 20 people up against each other and made them fight with powder. Shields’ talent goes beyond shock. His unique, sinister and daring lens through which he composes and creates his work enables him to push boundaries and experiment with tweaking the Hollywood mystique. The mystery behind his relationships and habits captivate the media, not unlike the art world’s best-known friend of the famous, Andy Warhol. _Photography, nude, woman, naked, story teller...

Rafael Salazar (Cuban- American photographer) was born in Cuba in 1945 and has been a South Florida resident since 1965. He has photographed the development of the City of Miami as well as Miami’s budding art scene over the years. He is primarily known for his panoramic photographs and photo assemblage montages which have both a documentary quality to them but are full of enchantment and depth. Of great importance to him is the preservation on film of art works, especially those of a transitory nature, this has led him to photograph two of Christo and Jeanne-Claude projects; Miami’s Surrounded Islands and the Pont Neuf in Paris. He has also documented the works of Fernando García, Ed Ruscha, and Philip Johnson. His work draws inspiration from his love of the cosmos, spirituality, architecture, Eastern philosophy, and nature. He has been exhibiting his fine art both nationally and internationally for many years. Salazar’s images have earned him a reputation as an innovative and sensitive artist. He has close ties with the Miami-Dade Public Library System and photographed much of the development of Main Library as well as the early exhibitions and events held there. He photographed the library’s Artmobile, painted by New York Realist artist Lowell Nesbitt, an art gallery on wheels decorated with zebra patterns and native flowers that was in service from 1976 until 1992. He also documented the Grand Opening Celebration of the Metro-Dade Cultural Center held in 1986. Since its 1970 start, the Permanent Art Collection has been recognized nationally as a fearless reflection of Miami’s diversity, and an invaluable chronicle of its artistic and social history. Their collection includes Elizabeth Catlett, Purvis Young and Emilio Sanchez. "Fact and Fiction: The State of Florida Photography...
