About the Item
With an imaginative use of collage, this painting brings together striking images that are combined with great harmony on watercolor paper. Englander is a master of composition and proportion, as evidenced in this piece. The result here is an artwork that engages the viewer with circular images and geometric figures in shades of red and yellow. Despite this richly textured space, the resulting work is marked by an overall sense of beautiful balance.
Dorothy Englander’s work exhibited regionally and nationally for more than three decades before her death in the summer of 2023. Her works included imaginative landscapes based on her experiences in New Mexico, the Caribbean, and Gloucester MA, as well as nature-based imagery that related to her interest in the natural world and abstract painting. She earned an MFA at the University at Albany.
