DUSTIN HEDRICK TAPE INSTALLATION - Blue Paint & Red tape - "Cutting Edge" Mural

2020

About the Item

"Cutting Edge" is an installation piece by Dustin Hedrick comprised of paint and artist's tape. The red artist's tape creates a geometric, abstract portrait on the painted blue walls. In this, the negative space of the blue wall created by the red tape becomes just as important as the line work itself. The title refers to cutting-edge technology, specifically the 4D ultrasound where a clear image of the fetus is obtainable. Hedrick is using ultrasound photography to inspire and inform his newest work. The name also refers to the process used to cut and create the tape installation. Hedrick’s work often deals with the merging of different people’s portraits through black tape on the wall along with the use of color, abstraction, and jagged, twisted lines. This exhibit marks more of a return to abstraction as the line work represents the uncertainty and ambiguity of fatherhood. This work is made-to-order by Dustin Hedrick.
