In My Feelings

2023

About the Item

"In My Feelings," an exquisite artwork created by the visionary artist Emeka Ndibam, draws us into a realm of emotions and introspection. The piece showcases a young woman, adorned in a vibrant red cloth, sitting serenely and gazing intently at the viewer, her emotions laid bare. A single red rose rests gracefully on the table before her, adding a touch of poignant symbolism to the scene. The young woman's presence is captivating, and her eyes hold a depth of emotion that seems to pierce through the canvas, inviting us to explore the inner workings of her soul. Her posture exudes both vulnerability and strength as if she has embraced her emotions and is unafraid to show her true self to the world. Ndibam's attention to detail and mastery of colors create an ambiance of both warmth and intensity, making it impossible to look away from her mesmerizing gaze. The choice of red cloth and the solitary red rose cannot be overlooked, as they add layers of meaning to the artwork. Red, the color of passion and love, evokes a strong sense of emotion and desire. It is as if the woman's emotions are magnified by the scarlet hue that envelops her, hinting at the intensity of her feelings. The red rose, often a symbol of love and romance, serves as a poignant reminder of the complexity of human emotions and the profound impact they can have on our lives. "In My Feelings" transcends being merely a depiction of a young woman; it becomes a window into the universality of human emotions. The artwork serves as a mirror reflecting our own feelings and experiences, urging us to confront and embrace the depth of our emotions, just as the woman in the painting does. Through this captivating artwork, Emeka Ndibam reminds us of the power of art to connect with our inner selves and touch the core of our humanity. The young woman's gaze becomes a conduit for empathy, as we find ourselves drawn into her world of emotions, pondering the complexities of our own feelings and experiences. "In My Feelings" invites viewers to take a moment of introspection, to pause and reflect on the myriad of emotions that shape our lives. It encourages us to embrace our vulnerability, acknowledging that it is through our feelings that we connect with others and find our true selves. Ndibam's artistry not only celebrates the beauty of human emotions but also serves as a celebration of the shared human experience that binds us all together. As we immerse ourselves in the captivating gaze of the young woman in "In My Feelings," we are reminded of the power of art to evoke emotions, inspire self-reflection, and create connections that transcend time and space. Emeka Ndibam's masterpiece serves as a testament to the timeless allure of art and its ability to touch the depths of the human soul, leaving an indelible impression on all who behold it. "Be-Flowered" is deeply rooted in the African cultural heritage of a female child. In African culture, it is revered that a young woman should maintain her sexual purity until marriage, which brings immense joy and honor to her family when her husband finds her a virgin on their wedding night. The title "Be-Flowered" is derived from the concept of "Deflower," which signifies taking away a lady's innocence or dispossessing her of her virginity. However, in this painting series, my premise is centered on empowering women and celebrating their pride and inherent power. The first two pieces of the series feature ladies adorned in traditional South African bids worn during the Virgin festival. The gentle pink clouds symbolize feminine power and poise, evoking the strength and grace embodied by women. A community that empowers women tends to uphold higher moral standards than one that does not. My perspective veers away from the idea of gender equality, recognizing its limitations, and instead, I believe in gender equity, providing each gender with the opportunities they need to fulfill their potential. This series aims to leave my audience with a profound appreciation for empowerment and a celebration of cultural heritage. I hope viewers will reflect on the significance of embracing one's roots while acknowledging the strength and beauty that women contribute to society.
