About the Item
“The Front #2” by Eugene Healy, 2020. Fabric collage and oil on canvas. 11.75 x 28.5 Frame: 29.5 x 13.5 inches. His abstract, landscape painting features an abstracted seascape with land, sea, and skt in an aerial view. Calming colors of light blue, yellow, red, orange, grey, and white meet the tumultuous colors of the weathered sky above. The artist incorporates sections of texture and relief with the use of fabric collage.
American artist, Eugene Healy is an abstract artist who grasped the concept of significant form; He also served as a curator, beginning in the late 1970s.
Many of Healy's meticulous collage paintings are abstractions of beach and shore scenes of Connecticut and New England being places that have evoked particular moods and feelings in him. His mediums range from oil, watercolor, encaustic, oil crayon, lacquers, colored pencil applied to fragments of canvas, boards, and paper.
Healy's early primary influences were Matisse, Vermeer, Diebenkorn, Rauschenberg, Hoffman, and the Fauve painters. He began to collage when he was just thirteen years old. He studied painting at the New York Institute of Technology and earned his B.F.A. in 1972.
