About the Item

When the Stars Align 10.0 x 13.0 x 5.0, 2.0 lbs Mixed Media Hand signed by artist Artist's Commentary: "When the Stars Align is part of series called: Mind Springs that all started with a found object, antique bed springs. Each piece in the series (there are six pieces, sold separately) expands on my interactions around the spring. I am interested in balancing the positive spaces, working with the proportions of the patterns and integrating the spring to create a 3-dimensional wall sculpture with strings hanging freely. All the imagery is my photography printed on transparency that interacts with light to create shadows and a new visual experience." About the Artist: Gwen’s love of textiles began early and has continued as a life-long resource. As a naive 17 year old she went off to Paris for a weekend as a Mademoiselle Magazine college competition fashion winner. Her interest in fashion continued to grow starting out as a textile designer before becoming a full time artist. The joy of pattern informed her vision from very early on. Gwen moved from the east coast to the west coast 18 years ago that had an unexpected impact. This new freedom included world travel and she began taking pictures with a camera without realizing she was creating a context for the work yet to come. Soon Gwen began re-arranging and cropping her photos and finally printing on transparencies in repeat patterns made on the computer. Her love of the handmade made the needle the natural tool to pull the pieces together leaving the threads hanging as evidence of the process. Her work is arranged slightly off the wall with straight pins to permit shadows to interact with the forms. From a distance the work appears as abstract compositions. Upon closer inspection segments carry recognizable imagery. Gwen’s work is about transformation and her interest in reconfiguring shapes and patterns in repeat on a transparent material that interacts with light to create a unique visual experience.

Treasure 2.7
By Virginia Fleck
Located in Boston, MA
Artist Commentary: Aluminum can-tabs chained together with safety pins are layered, massed and attached to an MDF backing creating a dense sparkling texture. The can-tabs are reflective, glinting in the light, catching the eye of those who pass by them. These shield-like, glittering wall pieces have the presence of valuable treasure, but closer inspection reveals that the treasure is made from can-tabs, one of many common disposable items that continuously pass through our hands. Keywords: assemblage, post consumer can-tabs Details: This is a wall mounted scuplture made from post consumer can-tabs and safety pins mounted on green MDF. A hanging cleat is attached on back. signed on back. No paints are use in this piece. The can-tabs are manufactured in many colors according to thier brand. 'Untitled Assemblage #S3-23', by John Wolfe, Mixed Media Abstract Sculpture
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
John Wolfe's Mixed Media Abstract Sculpture, "Untitled Assemblage #S 3-23" brings together wood, steel, ceramic elements, and acrylic paint. The warm colors of the wood and painted ceramic elements soften the feel of the rectilinear arrangement. The shallow depth of the work gives the sculpture a kind of "drawing" quality while the shadows it casts lend a more expansive feel. The heavy, dark wood base anchors all aspects of the work in place. This work is the perfect tabletop piece. It's large enough to command attention, but also subtle in its open framework arrangement. John Wolfe was born in Vernon...
