About the Item
Artist Comments
I draw inspiration from the ocean, where all elements of nature interact with each other. I used a range of mediums in this mixed media piece to build up energetic surfaces that are rich with texture and emotion. I love the effects of the materials I used--the little crackles and the cheesecloth shine through. The sides are painted in a neutral warm white. The painting is varnished and ready to hang.
About the Artist
Hilma Koelman has traveled the world, but always found herself coming back to the ocean. Her years living in Curacao, a tropical island in the Caribbean, provided endless inspiration for her art, from the deep turquoise of the water to the colorful buildings of the island. Now living in South Florida, Hilma uses her abstract paintings to express her passion and energy. She may go through states of happiness, struggling, or insecurity when she’s creating a work of art, but she always arrives at a feeling of satisfaction, at which point she knows the painting is finished.
