About the Item
Artist Comments
"Sometimes we need to stand strong and keep it together in the face of uncertainty," says artist Jennifer Ross of her inspiration for this piece - part of her Kintsugi Horse series. Kintsugi is the Japanese art form of repairing fragmented pottery with lacquer mixed with powdered gold. Jennifer collaged small pieces of eggshell over gold paint to build the horse's body and used a thick acrylic gel medium to sculpt the mane and tail.
About the Artist
Jennifer Ross grew up surrounded by the art of her mother and grandfather. Her attempt to follow in their footsteps presented detours, however, and she ended up working in art galleries selling other's work. But her desire to paint continued to grow throughout the years. In 2008, a gift certificate to a local art store turned into an epiphany when she decided to try painting. Jennifer found inspiration in a collection of antique prints of birds' nests and eggs by the English artist, F.O. Morris, and began to create an avian series. These paintings serve as symbolic family portraits of what we all hold dear - our home and loved ones. Today, she is often commissioned to paint various colored eggs representing patrons' family members.

Artist Yelitza Diaz presents a nude figure hanging from a wooden module. Part of her Climbers series depicting people ascending geometric wooden cutouts. Yelitza offers the piece with neutral colors and virgin wood for a minimalistic effect. Inspired by the moon, the carved circle overlaps with the base that interacts with each component.
About the Artist
Born in Venezuela, Yelitza Diaz;s life has been wrapped in the arts since childhood. She founded a gallery with her husband, who is also an artist, and was successful for many years until the crime and corruption in the local government became unbearable. They now live in South Carolina, where she makes art that explores human existentialism and the political and social developments of her native country. Her sculptures are made with ceramic techniques using a minimalist contemporary style. Fun fact: Yelitza designed the town seal for her native Municipio Falc;n in Venezuela.
