"Kadesh V-13" is a mixed-media painting signed and dated lower right by the artist John Baughman. The piece has purple, blue, red, black, and cream colors in abstract fields, much like color field artists like Mark Rothko. 35 1/2" x 21 1/2" art 45 1/8" x 31" frame John grew up in western Michigan, the oldest of five children. He was interested in art from a young age, and although there were no artists in his family, as a child he received what became valuable encouragement from a neighbor, who worked in the art business. Of his art, John says, "Art is the core of my life." Like life, John's art is unexpectedly diverse and complicated. He often uses oil paints, but constantly experiments with new mediums, feeling that it is important for an artist to be willing to take risks.
