Josef Brauner (Aaron Chaimowicz, 1890–1973), Berlin-born Bauhaus-trained artist, created this exceptional black and white rationalist collage in 1927. Brauner studied under Wassily Kandinsky, Oskar Schlemmer, and Herbert Bayer at the Bauhaus. Beyond his artistic pursuits, he was a politically engaged antifascist and fought in the Spanish Civil War. His work spans collage, printmaking, and graphic design, with this period recognized as among his most influential.
This hand-signed and dated collage represents a rare surviving example of his interwar Berlin production.
