On June 6, 2018, at 12:00 the volcano named Fuego in Guatemala erupted to devastating effect. Over 1.5 million people were affected by the explosions and the death toll is now in the hundreds. Many people now remain without homes and others are searching for lost family members. The ash from the explosions blanketed the area and a massive cleanup ensued. The artist Kurtis Brand collected the ashes with the intention of creating poetic pieces of art that express his feelings during the event and the devastating aftermath. 20% of the proceeds from each piece will be donated to Habitat for Humanity who are raising funds to place affected families back into homes.
Ceniza #15 is made of Volcanic ash on upcycled canvas.
BIO
Conceptual artist from NYC living in Antigua, Guatemala. Brand's work follows the ebb and flow of his travels over the years; living in an RV and practicing in Zen Centers across America, having children in NYC, traveling through Central America. Brand's strongest influence is his meditation practice and its associated rituals. He holds a BFA in Design from Maryland Institute College of Art
and a BFA in Painting from Ohio University.
