About the Item
Linda Turner, raised both in NYC and Northern Virginia, resides in Brooklyn, NY. She achieved a BFA in Surface Design/Textile Design from the Fashion Institute of Technology, and later completed a master’s in Art Therapy from Pratt Institute. Additionally, Linda has studied at the Art Students League, SVA, Parsons and painted with Tribeca Underground. Linda is a member of art collectives, Spliced Connector and Odetta Digital; she has participated in various group shows and her work is in private collections around the country.
Linda's work can look like many things, yet underlying are visual conversations of who we are as individuals, as communities, in the world. Many years spent as a home textile/product designer, combined with training and practice as an art psychotherapist have informed my use of pattern, texture, layering and color, for all apply as much to design principles as they do to the human psyche and social condition.
Meditations is a collection that was born out of necessity, a critical form of pandemic self-care. While each piece may appear to have been carefully curated, it was in fact the spontaneity of creating random lines, watching them form into shapes, filling them in with color while focusing (or not) on breath, that kept me grounded and going strong. And then, upon completion these works have provided endless moments of contemplation, fascination, and calm.
