Dramatic abstract composition by Michele King (American, b. 1962). This piece resembles a nebula, with swirling texture and subtle variations in color. Although the piece appears to be mostly black, there are a variety of colors that peek through the top layer. A layer of high gloss varnish creates a nearly iridescent quality to the piece, and the colors shift subtly depending on the viewing angle.

Michele King (American, b. 1962) was born in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to California in the 1990s. She attended Virginia Tech and Harvard, where she earned her MPA. She pursued graduate studies at the Glasgow School of Art in 2013. Her work is focused on “memory, the future, and ways in which perception is shaped through a combination of reality and imagination.” King’s process involves layering of various media, creating depth and texture.

Mike Gough was born in Corner Brook, Newfoundland. He attended Sir Wilfred Grenfell College and completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts. In 2009/2010 he attended Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London, England where he received a Master of Fine Arts. His work has appeared in exhibitions in Canada, the UK, the United States of America, and France and is part of both private and public collections worldwide.
At its core, his practice explores how our relationship with the natural world connects and defines us. Working in mixed media, he endeavors to create familiar meditative spaces that exhibit a personal journey, but simultaneously invite the viewer to insert themselves in the narrative. These paintings partially stem from a fear of memory loss as a result of experiences with Alzheimer’s in his family. Not only does the painting process exercise Gough’s memory, but the paintings themselves act as records of his experience becoming a blend of reality and idealism. They are not painted from photographs; the places are not precisely rendered and the experiences are not accurately told, but they are Gough’s authentic recollection of them. The intent of his work is to create a patchwork map of memories as a guide back to the authenticity of human feeling.

The organic aesthetic and textures of Peter Kuttner’s original boho minimalist artworks are the result of patient layering and original uses of media. Through a combination of paint and collage, Kuttner is able to find personal expression in the clear colors and contrasting soft textures he creates. With a focus on subtle textures, Kuttner separately creates the colorful detailed top layers of each artwork in a separate process. Each of these applied mini paintings within the larger composition is a unique cutout of paint created with a flow of colors on an intermediary glass surface.
This one-of-a-kind mixed media painting measures 16 inches square. It is wired and ready to hang. It is signed by the artist on the front and back. It does not require framing. Convenient local Los Angeles area shipping. Affordable Continental U.S. and International shipping also available. A certificate of authenticity issued by the art gallery is included.
Kuttner uses familiar yet abstract details to suspend the viewer in contemplation of the universality of imagery. Using negative shapes, repetition, and emphasizing spatial relationships, he carefully considers scale and balance. Works in this series are meant to be contemporary, clean, sophisticated, colorful, uplifting, soothing, and filled with positive vibrations.
Kuttner’s artworks have been featured in Architectural Digest Magazine as well as in popular films and television shows including Two and a Half Men, Californication, and Nashville. Presently, Kuttner’s work is on display in a large number of private, royal, museum, and corporate collections worldwide.
