Artist Melissa Gannon explores various methods and techniques in her art career to create a captivating image of ferns and underbrush deep in the woods. Utilizing a colored and clear tar gel, iridescent and interference paint, and watercolor, Melissa renders a vibrant mixed media with bold color and contrast. "In different lights and angles, this piece changes just as the woods themselves change from morning to night," says Melissa. "A true woodland experience."
About the Artist
Melissa is passionate about color. She finds it to be the most significant form of inspiration to paint. Speaking on influences in her work, Melissa says, “Sometimes it’s an idea that I can’t get out of my head, or a color that I just MUST paint!†She particularly enjoys painting leaves, and the changing colors of Oregon foliage are visible in her work. In 2001, Melissa began teaching art classes, which has allowed her to view her own artwork in a new way. “The information that flows in a class is awesome,†she says. Melissa is constantly learning from the students in her classes, and is more conscious of what it means to be an artistic role model.

About the Artist
Darlene McElroy sees creating art as similar to reading Turkish coffee grounds. A story becomes revealed as one looks at the surface, texture and color. Her works use a variety of materials ranging from acrylic paints to photo transfers and collage. She currently lives in New Mexico and has been greatly influenced by the work of Robert Rauschenberg. She encourages viewers to search for their narrative interpretation when viewing a work.
