About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Cairns” is an 18 x 24 collage made up of a series of 4 individual 11 x 4.25 inch abstract collages with red, silver, chartreuse green, yellow, black, and blue on pale gray paper. Each collage has organic borders and is made up of fragments from photographs, paper samples, and acrylic monotypes printed on a variety of papers including memorabilia from the artist’s late father. The four collages are mounted on a sheet of 18 x 24 white Canson paper. The linear sequence of the irregular compositions creates movement and narrative. Some print fragments are on vintage reports and graph papers with handwritten numbers. The two black and white images are from a textbook about naval aviation. The signature is on the front.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer with a BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions, as well as in several periodicals, and is part of collections in the United States and Europe. DeSalvo is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston.
