About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Cochlear Conundrum” is a 16 x 20 mixed media collage with blue, yellow, and turquoise monotype fragments printed on vintage paper, a ruled xerox report with black type, a white conch shell, and a brown magazine scrap. The woven texture comes from using frayed burlap on a Gelli plate, and the thin lines were stamped on by using the ribbed side of a plastic cord keeper. The report and vintage paper belonged to DeSalvo’s late father, a former engineer. DeSalvo regularly prints onto his memorabilia and incorporates it into her work. The 10 x 15 image area is centered on a 16 x 20 sheet of archival Canson paper. The signature is below the image.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer with a BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions, as well as in several periodicals, and is part of collections in the United States and Europe. DeSalvo is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston.
