About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Cochlear Cornucopia” is a 15 x 22 inch surreal mixed media collage on an abstract acrylic drip painting on printmaking paper with purple, green, pink, blue, and white. On the left, crisp, elongated paint drips give way to splattered areas of watery color. Variations with texture and scale create depth within the asymmetrical composition. Collage elements include fragments of birds, mushrooms, broccoli, a chair, and a faucet.
The piece was inspired by hearing loss and auditory hallucinations. The work is on archival printmaking paper with deckled edges at the sides. The signature is on the image.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer. She received her BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been shown in many shows both juried and invitational and is a part of collections across the US and Europe. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston.
