About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Clark Field Tried Calling Mum” is a 16 x 12 inch minimalist collage on a black and white acrylic monotype with irregular edges and a faded, uneven texture. A Xerox-like appearance is created from ghost prints in shades of gray. An industrial red abstract object hovers over a house, and graphic leaf shapes fan out, overlapping impressions of squares from spiral notebook paper. The monotype was created using a Gelli plate, and the title was inspired by a quote from DeSalvo's late father and references the airbase where he was stationed in the Philippines. The 11 x 8.75 image is mounted on archival paper in a 16 x 12 x 0.825 inch black metal frame with glass. The title and signature are written below the image.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer. She received her BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been shown in many shows both juried and invitational and is a part of collections across the US and Europe. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery in Boston.
