About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “A different plateau” is a 20 x 16 inch collage with watery acrylic paint and a black line drawing on printmaking paper. Hand drawn diagrams on translucent, ivory graph paper, blue mountains, and white snow are layered over an ethereal abstract landscape of aqua, lime green, navy, and yellow. A circular scatter graph like a star constellation is centered on the work’s vertical seam. The work incorporates paper memorabilia from DeSalvo’s late father’s engineering profession, and the title pays homage to one of his quotes. The 12 x 9 inch image is mounted on archival printmaking paper in a 20 x 16 x 0.825 inch white metal frame with glass. The title and signature are written below the image.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer with a BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts. Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions and publications such as Suboart, Juniper Rag, and Artscope magazines. In 2024, she participated in her first artist residency at the Kolaj Institute in Sanquhar, Scotland. Her 2023 solo show, A Bus Tour in the Woods: Visual Duets with Her Father, was held at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, and she was interviewed for the Dementia Spring Foundation’s Artist Spotlight. Monica lives and works in Arlington, MA. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston.
