About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “It’s nature leaving you alone” is a 28 x 22 inch surreal collage on archival watercolor paper. Aerial photos of expansive landscapes and winding blue rivers near Savannah, Georgia, show a vast sky blending into the horizon with pale and muted tones of ivory, olive green, yellow and gray. Abstracted imagery and remnants of paper memorabilia from DeSalvo’s late father gently float around the perimeter and cross over the narrow passage between the upper and lower sideways components. Elements include a line drawing of a hand, a weather diagram, an airplane, silverware, and mushrooms. The unframed work has a white border and is mounted on 30 x 24 inch archival paper. The title and signature are written below the image.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer with a BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts. Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions and publications such as Suboart, Juniper Rag, and Artscope magazines. In 2024, she participated in her first artist residency at the Kolaj Institute in Sanquhar, Scotland. Her 2023 solo show, A Bus Tour in the Woods: Visual Duets with Her Father, was held at the Hopkinton Center for the Arts, and she was interviewed for the Dementia Spring Foundation’s Artist Spotlight. Monica lives and works in Arlington, MA. She is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston.
