About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Swinging against plumb” is a 36 x 24 inch surreal collage on a digital enlargement of two adjoined acrylic monoprints on paper. Wavy lines with tones of green, turquoise, blue, chartreuse, and yellow serve as a watery backdrop for items such as astronauts, lists of numbers, and lettuce. Items weave in and out of irregular curves, both accentuating and camouflaging the horizontal seam. Fragments of paper memorabilia from DeSalvos late father have been incorporated, and the title pays homage to one of his quotes. The original monoprints were created using a Gelli plate. The unframed work is on archival watercolor paper and has a white border. The title and signature are written below the image.
Monica DeSalvo is a Boston-based mixed-media artist and designer with a BFA in Visual Design from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. Her work has been featured in juried and invitational exhibitions, as well as in several periodicals, and is part of collections in the United States and Europe. DeSalvo is represented by Fountain Street Gallery based in Boston.
