About the Item
Monica DeSalvo’s “Up-sun-down” is a surreal mixed media collage over a digital inkjet photo montage printed on Yupo paper. The abstract montage of blue, tan, sage green, yellow, and white, is divided by two landscapes in opposite orientations: the desert and ocean at El Faro Beach in Todos Santos, Mexico, at the tip of Baja California Sud. DeSalvo's enlarged photographs are a backdrop for collaged images nestled in the surf, dunes, mountains, and sky. Items include black and white images from a vintage textbook and fragments of acrylic monotypes printed with a Gelli plate on paper memorabilia once belonging to DeSalvo’s late father. DeSalvo regularly incorporates her father's paper memorabilia, such as the math homework, into her work. The signature is written below the image and signed on the back. The work is dry-mounted onto foam core with a thickness of 0.1875 inches.
