Who doesn't love sunshine, palm trees and a wonderfully diverting day on the boardwalk of their favorite beach? I usually paint abstracts of natural scenes, devoid of colorful kiddie rides and cotton candy vendors, so this subject presented an exciting challenge to me. I painted one of my favorite childhood destinations with the idea of the feeling rather than the literal, so you, the viewer, would see "fun" rather than funnel cakes!
About the Artist
Natalie George has been an artist her entire life. A college semester in Italy introduced her to the tradition of realism. After mastering this classical style, she began to experiment with abstraction in her work. Natalie now paints heavily abstracted landscapes, combining unexpected colors to create interpretations of reflective bodies of water. Her work recalls both modernism and the gilded compositions of 20th Century Austrian painter Gustav Klimt. The artist’s process begins with visiting a location and shooting reference photographs, followed by sketches on paper, before finally turning to canvas. Natalie’s paintings reward the patient viewer, who will discover delicate horizon lines, trees, and fluid reflections within her hazy abstractions.
