About the Item

Contemporary circular portrait in acrylic on wood, exploring migration, identity, and longing, with Korean inscription and green-yellow palette. This original acrylic painting on wood belongs to Natasha Lelenco’s ongoing Currencies series, a body of work centered on migration, value, and the emotional architecture of foreignness. Currency #257 presents a detailed female profile rendered in green tones, set against a matte yellow circular background. Painted in 2024 on a 26 cm diameter pine wood panel, the portrait is surrounded by a red Korean inscription that reads: “I wish it existed, but my homeland also calls me.” The phrase introduces themes of imagined belonging, diasporic tension, and fractured identity—core concerns of the Currencies project. The sculptural format and edge-painted surface allow this work to function as both painting and object. With its bold chromatic scheme and textual intervention, it resonates as a contemporary figurative portrait as much as a conceptual artifact of displacement. Its circular shape echoes the formal logic of coinage, while replacing institutional symbolism with vulnerable, anonymous faces. The Currencies series proposes an alternative economic logic through its dual pricing concept: each piece may be used in partial exchange for a future artwork by the artist, underlining the precarious valuation of artistic labor and the emotional currency of identity. Works in the series have been exhibited internationally, including at the I Triennial of Tijuana, La Frontera (Dallas), and JustLX Lisboa. Crafted in acrylic on hand-treated pine wood, this piece is 2 cm thick and comes ready to hang. It may be acquired individually or as part of a multi-panel configuration, ideal for collectors focused on contemporary identity politics, language, and diaspora. Female Profile Tondo with Yellow Pixel Floral Background. “Exchange Currency #5”
By Natasha Lelenco
Located in FISTERRA, ES
This sculptural round painting by Natasha Lelenco combines figurative precision with ornamental symbolism, presenting a striking female profile set against a digital-floral tapestry. Executed on a tondo plywood panel (55 cm diameter, 4 cm thick), the work fuses painting and objecthood, turning the portrait into a sculptural presence that projects into space. The pronounced edge of the panel and the layered construction contribute to its dimensional character, blurring the distinction between image and artifact. Rendered in warm tones, the face emerges with quiet intensity, its elongated neck extending into a flat, vividly painted body. The floral background—built from pixel-like forms in tones of yellow, ochre, and muted greens—references Eastern European textiles...
