About the Item

Special offer only in this artwork of this series: 50% off from May 21 to May 28 only. This limited-time campaign highlights selected works from Currencies, the long-running series by Natasha Lelenco exploring migration, value, and identity through painted coin-like portraits on wood. In Currency #247, the artist presents a side-profile of a young migrant girl rendered in luminous green tones, emerging from a vivid yellow background. The Spanish inscription encircling the image reads: “Yo era muy pequeña, ir a otro país era algo alucinante” (“I was very young, going to another country was something amazing”), offering a child’s perspective on migration as both awe-inspiring and disorienting. The portrait is painted on a circular pine wood panel (26 cm diameter, 2 cm thick) using acrylics and spray paint. The format mimics the shape of a coin, evoking the symbolic function of currency while interrogating how personal worth is shaped by geography, race, and opportunity. Each portrait in this series is unique and hand-painted, blending realism with playful distortion and conceptual precision. About the Series This artwork is part of Natasha Lelenco’s Lo siento no soy de aquí / Currencies, a documentary-based art project exploring estrangement and inequality through the visual language of coins. Using multilingual inscriptions and fragmentary quotes gathered from migrant experiences, the series visualizes emotional and social dislocation with intimate force. The works are conceived for display as individual pieces or as part of modular installations. Collectors may exchange coins in the future—returning a piece and selecting another available work—emphasizing the fluid and unstable nature of assigned value. Technical Details Medium: Acrylic, spray paint on treated pine wood Dimensions: Ø 26 cm x 2 cm thickness Year: 2023 Installation: Ready to hang Packaging: Shipped in secure custom box Installation and Custom Projects The Currencies series is ideal for modular displays in private and institutional settings. Female Profile Tondo with Yellow Pixel Floral Background. “Exchange Currency #5”
By Natasha Lelenco
Located in FISTERRA, ES
This sculptural round painting by Natasha Lelenco combines figurative precision with ornamental symbolism, presenting a striking female profile set against a digital-floral tapestry. Executed on a tondo plywood panel (55 cm diameter, 4 cm thick), the work fuses painting and objecthood, turning the portrait into a sculptural presence that projects into space. The pronounced edge of the panel and the layered construction contribute to its dimensional character, blurring the distinction between image and artifact. Rendered in warm tones, the face emerges with quiet intensity, its elongated neck extending into a flat, vividly painted body. The floral background—built from pixel-like forms in tones of yellow, ochre, and muted greens—references Eastern European textiles...
