"Currency #247" is a compelling piece from Natasha Lelenco's "Exchange Currencies" series, which delves into themes of migration, identity, and the arbitrary valuation of human life based on origin, race, or family. This series employs the metaphor of currency to critique societal inequalities and the fluctuating worth assigned to individuals. In this artwork, Lelenco presents a side-profile portrait of a young migrant girl, rendered in cool green tones that stand in vivid contrast to the bright yellow background. Encircling the figure is a Spanish inscription: "Yo era muy pequeña, ir a otro país era algo alucinante," translating to "I was very young, going to another country was something amazing." This phrase adds a personal narrative, reflecting the awe and challenges of migration from a child's perspective. Executed with acrylic and spray paint on a circular wooden panel, the piece measures 26 cm in diameter and 2 cm in depth, offering a sculptural quality that enhances its visual impact. The use of recycled materials, such as wood and spray paint, aligns with the artist's commitment to eco-friendly practices. Natasha Lelenco, born in 1982 in Chișinău, Moldova, and currently based in Galicia, Spain, is renowned for her vibrant color palettes and poignant exploration of human experiences. Her "Exchange Currencies" series challenges viewers to contemplate the societal constructs that dictate human value, making her work both visually striking and thought-provoking. "Ben-day Sophia 1" Mixed media, Acrylic, spray paint, pigmented ink 36x28 canvas
By Ceravolo
Located in Southampton, NY
"Benday Sophia 1" pays tribute to those paintings that became the trademark of Ceravolo's unique and trend setting style of painting. His work is collected worldwide and is in many important collections including, Sir Elton John, Rod Stewart, Hugh Hefner and Prince Jefri of Brunei to name only a few. In addition to those, his paintings came to popular attention when he was commissioned to create 5 large scale paintings for the lobby of The Palladium Theatre in New York City. In this painting, Ceravolo has featured an image of his pop art painting of Sophia Loren, and combined it with a pattern of benday dots to create the basis of "Benday Sophia 1". He then paints his trademark brush strokes and textures on the canvas over the pop art portrait. Then, he paints the "floating" illusion that creates the 3d floating effect he is known for. The Canvas measures 36x28".
