New York Times articles and headlines are blown up, printed on polystyrene, and heated with a blow torch to create a dimensional piece of art resembling a crumpled newspaper. A thought provoking conversational artwork creating dialogue between pop culture and art.
Paul Rousso (b. 1958) is a visual artist and innovator who is a native of Charlotte, North Carolina. He attended the Cleveland Institute of Art in Ohio before being sidelined by a too-close encounter with a power saw. Rousso’s period of convalescence turned into a months-long stint in New York City, where he found work as a member of an interior design team drawing plans for the home of Robert De Niro. After completing his B.F.A. in 1981 at California College of the Arts in Oakland, California, Rousso was hired by Warner Brothers as a scenic painter for films. He went on to serve as an art director and illustrator for Revlon, Clairol, Condé Nast, and Bloomingdale’s before becoming a fulltime artist.
With influences ranging from Dr. Seuss to Roy Lichtenstein, Rousso casts his pop art sensibilities on a 21st century scale. Advances in technology have enabled him to delve into the heat-tempered sculpting of the world’s ephemera in surprising ways. Through exaggerations of size, Rousso places such familiar items as a crumpled-up ten-dollar bill or a bubble gum wrapper on the same relative plane as the viewer. Intricately detailed renderings at such outsized dimensions as four to five feet in size force the viewer into the role of studied observer. It is in this way that Rousso’s art speaks to the conversion of physical objects and the effect of that transformation on the viewer. Again, “all this stuff is going away,” and Rousso wants you to take a good long look.
Rousso’s work is held in private collections over North America, Europe, the Middle East and beyond, and numerous public projects of his appear across the United States. His work has also been exhibited at galleries in Atlanta, Charlotte, Los Angeles, New Orleans, and Miami.

- Mick Jagger Andy Warhol SurfboardBy Tim BessellLocated in Greenwich, CTMick Brown 78 x 20 x 2.5 inches Swallow tail surfboard and print Edition 11 of 12 Acquired from artist's studio Artist COA adhered to backside of each board. Signed by both Tim Bessell and Andy Warhol Foundation. Image of musician Mick Brown printed on a swallow tail surfboard. Tim Bessel’s career marks a confluence of surfing experience and artistic inspiration to create some of the best custom surfboards in the world. Surfboard shapers and surfers alike, from all over the world, know the name, Tim Bessell. At a very young age, Tim Bessell was exposed to the infectious world of art by his mother, which would coincidentally influence his future to come. At only thirteen years old, Tim was making a name for himself as a surfer in his home town of La Jolla, California when he also began shaping surfboards, becoming one of the youngest surfboard shapers in the industry. Three years later Tim moved to Hawaii to prove he has what it takes to be a shaper on the North Shore. He began shaping custom surfboards for Lightning Bolt, one of Hawaii's premier surfboard manufacturers known for the infamous lightning gun shape of the 70's ridden by legendary Gerry Lopez. In fact, Tim Bessell would later become one of the few shapers allowed to manufacture surfboards under the Lightning Bolt name. After legitimizing himself as a shaper, Tim returned to San Diego, California to open Bessell Surfboards. By 1987, Bessell Surfboards had grown into one of the largest surfboard manufacturers in Southern California. Tim also made a name for himself as an artist, with exhibitions as far away as Japan. To date, Tim has produced over 46,000 surfboards. His boards have graced the covers of Surfer Magazine, Surfing Magazine, Beach Culture, and countless other surfing magazines. Many world class surfers have ridden Bessell Surfboards including: Peter King, Luke Egan, Jon Roseman, Glen Winton, Brad Gerlach, Vetea David, Ricky Irons, David MacAulay...Category
