About the Item
A devastating and arresting battlefield composition by the British listed artist Ronald Olley (b.1926). A barbed wire fence marks a boundary on disputed territory, with the suspended corpse of a soldier providing the central focus. Olley used his own experience of the Second World War in his military scenes, and this is most evident here, in this expressive and emotive work. A sobering reflection of the reality of war.
The artist has used both oil and watercolour, with acrylic details. Well-presented in a light wood frame and off-white mount, as shown. On canvas paper.
