About the Item

The Liquied series is inspired by transformation, the speed with which things change, and the material's ability to adapt to its environment. As Zygmunt Bauman describes, liquid life doesn't maintain its shape; it changes; it has no contained form, but rather everything seems to blend together. In her work, Rosario Briones uses the path of her body that becomes shapes, and the shapes, an indication of the artistic process, of the material choreography directed by the emotion of the body, where an intimate experience is hidden and glimpsed. The fluidity of her paintings finds no structure. Exploring the same procedure in different supports such as papers and fabrics. The artist is interested in the infinite possibilities that offer her the material, its porosities, weaves, thicknesses and different capacities of absorption, they return images that are not in her head. Signed for a game of tensions, a fight between forces, given by the accumulations of pigment, the transparencies, the forms and their search for balance. Sometimes controlled and other times more chance, they become a record of a living materiality. From the Liquid Life series Mixed media on paper Signed by the artist

All Is Full of Love, Abstract Painting
By Maya Malioutina
Located in San Francisco, CA

Artist Comments
Maya Malioutina's ongoing series "Lighter" is inspired by Rumi's quote: "The wound is where the light enters you." Maya explains, "Not just our wounds, all our cracks and scratches - the sum of our life experiences, are what makes each one of us unique, whole and beautiful and serve, simultaneously, as an entrance through which the light enters us and exits - through which we are able to shine the light that we carry inside us outward."

About the Artist
Maya’s abstract mixed-media artworks are inspired by urban imperfections–cracks in sidewalks, peeling paint, rusted metal. Influenced by the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi, Maya embraces the aesthetic flaws of city life, translating daily discoveries into heavily layered and textured paintings. “Some works have close to fifty layers,” she mentions. “I like to layer paint and media slowly, a little at a time.” Maya employs a neutral palette and generous applications of metallic leaf to create meditative yet sumptuous artworks, quietly enticing the viewer.
