Ryan Van Der Hout
To Rise Again 2/2 - sunset orange, tondo, laser cut design, mirror wall relief

2018

About the Item

A black, white and glowing orange pigment print of the sun rising through clouds is perforated with a brilliant orange geometric design in this tondo by Ryan Van Der Hout. The precise, concentric design glows with orange and reflected light revealing the layers of plexiglass and mirrored glass behind. Backed by a layer of orange plexiglass, a halo of orange glows on the wall around the piece. Ryan Van Der Hout's photo-based work has been exhibited in the U.K., New York, and in Canada most notably as part of the AGO’s Collector’s series. His work has been supported by the Ontario Arts Council. Ryan is a graduate of Ryerson's photography program. His work has been published in The Huffington Post, CBC online, and Readers Digest. In 2017, he won the Emerging Photographer Award from the Robert McLaughlin Gallery, Oshawa, for his laser cut pigment print with gold leaf, Before the Storm.

Brooklyn Bridge I, contemporary and elegant, mixed media photography on wood
By Hugo Garcia-Urrutia
Located in Dallas, TX
This is a beautiful contemporary photograph of the iconic Brooklyn Bridge. The photograph is processed in a way that the grain of the wood eventually becomes the "canvas" and backdrop for this image. It is processed directly on Baltic birch wood using archival inks and is then sealed with a durable semi-gloss lacquer. The set is composed of 9 pieces and they are very easy to install and transport. It is a set of 25 and only 5 editions remain available. HUGO G. URRUTIA Urrutia is an interdisciplinary artist, interested in the cross-pollination between art and architecture. A graduate and active member of the Architectural Association in the United Kingdom, Urrutia’s work creates a distinct spatiality located at the interstice of art and architecture. His work explores and uses the technology for design and fabrication, with a sensitive and conscious reminder of the creativity of human endeavor. Urrutia graduated from the Architectural Association in 2013, earning a Master of Architecture in the Design & Make programme. In 2000, he graduated from Texas Tech University, with a Bachelor of Architecture and Design and received the 2000 Outstanding Thesis Award.
