About the Item
Artist Comments
A delicate tangle of fern fronds and forest ephemera rests gently atop a richly layered encaustic background, evoking the quiet mystery of a shaded woodland floor. The artwork invites the viewer into a moment of stillness and reflection, where light, texture, and memory merge. Real botanical elements suspend in translucent beeswax, creating a sense of depth and timelessness.
About the Artist
Artist Shannon Amidon is inspired by the briefness of life and the wonders of the natural world. "I explore the cycles of life, drawing attention to its transitory and fragile nature," she says. Using encaustic—a medium made from molten beeswax—Shannon incorporates vintage materials like letters, maps, and book pages, giving each piece a layered history and personal touch. Her love for nature is reflected in her eco-friendly practices and delicate, nostalgic motifs that evoke the beauty and fragility of life’s cycles. Her studio, a converted garage, is her sanctuary, where she meticulously crafted every detail to create an organized space that allows her to easily access her mixed media supplies. Outside of the studio, Shannon is passionate about gardening, beekeeping, and running The Verdancy Project, a community-oriented initiative offering creative residencies, retreats, and art projects.

Shannon Amidon
Shannon Amidon is an artist based in Portland, Oregon, whose artwork is made with encaustic like molten beeswax and collaged vintage paper. She uses materials that evoke a sense of nostalgia, such as old letters, maps, book pages and report cards, which she finds at antique stores or estate sales. By repurposing ephemeral materials, she gives each piece a history beyond itself and adds to the personal nature of the art. She also makes her eco-friendly encaustic and oils. “The environment is very important to me, so I use natural earth pigments,” says Amidon. Her love of nature comes across in the motifs she selects, hinting at both the wonder and delicacy of the cycle of life.

Artist Candice Eisenfeld draws inspiration from the silhouetted trees of the rainforests of Northern Georgia. "One early morning as the fog was clearing, a hawk guided me through the mountains," shares Candice. "The hawk led me through ethereal, meditative places with overwhelming beauty." She took photographs of her journey and painted her experiences of the adventure. "The bottom image depicts the rough, beginning of the journey and the scene portrays the ending. The rough, orange texture denotes the bark of the trees."
About the Artist
As an American exploring issues of identity, artist Candice Eisenfeld paints through the lens of the first American art movement, the Hudson River School. Rather than depicting a specific locale, Candice’s artwork evokes a sense of place. These "inner landscapes" are invented, and often reference photographs taken during travels in southern Appalachia and the Blue Ridge and Smokey Mountains. Whether real or imagined, her paintings are influenced by the Dutch Masters, Tonalists, and Chinese painting. Produced on a single wooden panel, the ethereal landscapes are often joined with segments of aqueous color fields which act as commentary for the landscapes, like the chorus in a Greek play. The crisp, hard edges separating the landscapes from the color fields command a sense of order in an otherwise fluid and painterly surface. With two or three sections of the panel competing for attention, the painting creates multiple focal points. Candice's art has been displayed in embassies in Namibia and Belarus, held in the collections of Norwest Bank and Northwest...
