About the Item

'Love Garden Party (Picnic #3)' is an original mixed-medium work of art composed of high quality acrylic paint, opaque, metallic and neon inks, and hand-cut collage, on 35.875"h x 23.875"w on cold press paper stock. The painting is framed (41.5"h x 29.5”w.) with conservation quality, high UV-filtering museum glazing. Signed by the artist. Part of Skip Hill's 'Love Garden Party' series, this work depicts two women gathered around a festive table filled with food and drink. Skip Hill was born in 1961 in Padre Island, Texas but grew up primarily in Oklahoma City. After attending Oklahoma City University to study Advertising and Marketing, he worked as a graphic designer before relocating in 1987 to Southern California. A two-week trip to Thailand in 1989 turned into a year traveling throughout Southeast Asia while writing for a business magazine based in Bangkok. In 1990 Skip Hill relocated to the Netherlands, immersing himself in the culture and learning the Dutch language. His frequent visits the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as well as the Boijman Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, sparked Hill’s interest in creating art inspired by aesthetic concerns over the strictly commercial art he produced during his advertising career. It was during this time abroad that he traveled through Germany, Czechoslovakia and Morocco. After returning to Oklahoma in 1993, Skip Hill studied formally at The University of Oklahoma with conceptual artist Hachivi Edgar Heap of Birds, and influential abstract painter George Bogart. Skip Hill’s art has been exhibited throughout the state in cultural institutions and galleries that include Oklahoma Contemporary, Fred Jones Museum of Art, The Betty Price Gallery at the Oklahoma State Capitol, Gaylord-Pickens Museum, Goddard Art Center, Artspace at Untitled, Living Arts Tulsa, 108 Contemporary, Mainsite Gallery and Kinfolk House. The Oklahoma Arts Council acquired Hill's work in 2014 for the Oklahoma State Art Collection. In 2022 The Philbrook Museum in Tulsa acquired two of Skip Hill’s artworks for their collection. Skip Hill lives and works in Tulsa, OK.

'I'll Be Back, ' by XVALA, Mixed Media Painting
By XVALA
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
'I'll Be Back,' by XVALA is a mixed media painting and colorful screen print with iridescent oil stick painting featuring the theme of the 'New World Order.' It was produced in 2015/16. The phrase 'I'll Be Back' is printed on the top and bottom margins of the work with the words 'New World Order' on the top margin. Three heads are stacked in the center of the canvas with the 'all seeing eye' on the top of the head. XVALA's art illuminates the hidden fallout spawned from our high tech Internet age. His 'Fear Google' campaign exposed the decay of privacy and 'No Delete' used hacked nude celebrity photos to highlight loss of control over personal information. The artist has worked with trash from the homes of Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, and others, as well as dirt from the graves of George Orwell and Aldous Huxley. The dirt appears in the New World Order collection as part of a pyramidal, 3D printed, living ant farm...

GARDEN ROMANCE by the artist James Denmark is an original hand drawn, limited edition lithograph(not a photo reproduction or digital print) printed on archival Somerset paper using traditional hand lithography techniques. GARDEN ROMANCE is one of Denmark's expressive, colorful collage compositions of everyday African American life - a lovely flower garden scene featuring a romantic black couple, the woman seated amid the blossoming plants wearing a green and yellow paisley print dress and head wrap; her standing male companion with flower in hand, dressed in blue denim jeans, and pastel color patchwork print shirt. Vivid coloration, watercolor patterns, and collage effect textures captivate the eye with visual variety in a striking palette of blues, greens, white, red, orange, magenta, touches of yellow, lavender and dark black - a fine example of the intricacies of hand lithography! Print size - 32 x 21.25 in., archival framing, double mat, excellent condition, pencil signed and numbered - Certificate of Authenticity provided 1 / 15 H.C. by James Denmark, publisher's chop embossed lower left corner Edition size - 250, plus proofs Year published - 1996 Printer - JK Fine Art Editions Co.
