About the Item
"Proteus Rising" is an original mixed media painting. I'm always fascinated by the effects of weathering and erosion on old items that have been left outside for years. This painting is based on a photo I took of a small section of a rusting old watering can. I created this by using layers of acrylic paint, texture paste, parts of the original photograph and ink. The painting put me in mind of a squid, as well as an overhead view of an intricate pattern of rivers In Greek mythology, Proteus is a sea god or god of rivers and bodies of water, and was known for his ability to change form to avoid capture.
