About the Item
Contemporary collage by Stewart Siskind.
Stewart Siskind has been intrigued by the elements of printed matter ever since he worked as an art director in New York City. His love of the medium has inspired him to breathe new life and meaning into discarded material by creating collages from torn paper that resonate with bold graphic structures and subtle psychological undercurrents.
Inspired by design, fashion and architecture, each collage is hand crafted with printed paper and infinite precision. Found materials are recycled into compositions creating a lively exchange with new dimensions. Shapes and patterns emerge like puzzle pieces arranged to create encounters between figure and ground.
Stewart Siskind earned a BFA in Graphic Design from the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan and did postgraduate studies in design and color theory at New York University and Parsons School of Design. His work has received numerous awards and can be found in such collections as The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum.
