About the Item

"Drawn In" is a trompe-l'œil tufted fiber work featuring hues of blue, green, red, yellow and pink. Trish Andersen is inspired by the work of Shelia Hicks, Cy Twombly, Judith Scott and Nick Cave. As an interdisciplinary artist born and raised in Dalton, Georgia "The Carpet Capital of the World”, Trish Andersen's initial attraction to the process of tufting was a means to reconnect with and explore her roots. Years after attending the Savannah College of Art and Design where she graduated with a BFA in Fibers, and moving on to live and work in Brooklyn, New York, she began using tufting as a medium for art making. This process became an examination of the notion that a thing or a way of being can run in our blood, that perhaps by observing the characteristics of personal origin and establishing commonality and community around those that reverberate in the present, one may be able to begin unearthing the elusive authentic self. Andersen currently lives and works in Savannah, Georgia. For the show 'OVER & UNDER,' Trish completed a series of works that explore the nuances of the fabric of life. “It isn't smooth or uniform. It's shadowy & bright & every in-between - substantial & steely in patches, while unfinished & threadbare in others,” says Trish. “Hung up, it acts as evidence of the topography we've tread: seascapes & sunny fields, hills that took nothing or everything to climb, cliffs & crags in blustery winds, scorching deserts, or quicksand we didn't know we could get out of. Our experiences, whether gentle or pointed, when pieced together provide us a map of our own resilience. Each stitch a moment in time, appearing different depending on your distance from it.”

Color Boundaries #66, Abstract painting, Organza layered Fabric
By Natasha Zupan
Located in Miami Beach, FL
Natasha Zupan beautifully unites the old and new, combining the innovation of her highly crafted technique with her wonder for tradition and the great Masters. This body of work explores the manipulation of surface texture, light, and the interweaving of time. It is not about translating a world that already exists, but about an entrance into a different universe. A timeless, tactile world of sensation and overlapping memory. Combining Renaissance ideals and concepts with images taken from contemporary media, Natasha Zupan beautifully unites the old and the new in her collage work. Natasha combines the innovation of her elaborate technique with her charm for tradition and the inspiration of the great Masters. Her clear, bright brushstrokes and her play of light and shadow are both rhythmic and youthful. The female figures in her paintings have an undeniable Renaissance character at the time, but they are reborn in our understanding of contemporary aesthetics. Their classic faces become modern nymphs when combined with symbols of nature and beauty. Each figurative work harbors a unique and intricate personality. Powerfully expressive, they are at once pure, sensual, innocent and seductive. From Tactile Memory Series Organza layered Fabric...
