About the Item

This 43.75" x 19.5" mixed media work depicts a simplistic rendering of Eve from the Biblical story of 'Adam & Eve'. The figure is slightly cut off by the left edge of the work, with the majority of the figure visible besides the very left edge of her body, including an arm and shoulder. Eve is dressed in sleeveless light purple/pink cloth. Eve's one visible arm reaches up and to the right hand side of the work and grabs a red apple that hangs from a branch from the top edge of the composition. Her forearm, just below her elbow, is accessorized with two golden cuffs, and a golden crown sits upon her black hair. Just above her head, next to the apple she is grabbing, is another partially visible apple that hangs from the left side of the top edge. Below Eve's raised arm, is also a partially visible bowl of apples that sits upon a blue table. Emerging from the right hand side of the bottom edge is another green stem with two leaves branching off, positioned just in front of the blue table that the bowl of apples sits upon. The background of the work, behind the figure, table, bowl and leaves, is a white cloudy application of paint layered over a beige/light tan color. The work is divided by three panels, each the same size. The bottom panel consists of Eve's lower half, the blue table, the bottom of the bowl of apples, and the one plant that emerges from the bottom edge of the work. The middle panel consists of the bowl of apples, Eve's chest and neck, her shoulder and the majority of her raised arm with the two gold cuffs. The top panel includes Eve's head with her gold crown, her wrist and hand, as well as the two apples that hang from the top edge of the composition. The artist employs a linear style of paint application, in which the paint creates a line of vision, specifically defining and outlining the subjects within the work. The painted enameled metal panels are framed and adhered to a white wood board.

'Love Garden Party (Envy)' by Skip Hill, Mixed Media Painting
Located in Oklahoma City, OK
This 26.5" x 29.5" by American artist, Skip Hill, is a vibrant mixed media collage/painting combining abstracted figures with stylized vases and domestic objects, adhering to the stylistic qualities of the Pop Art movement. The abstracted cats and the female figure are the focal points within the composition. Layered textures and material juxtapositions adhere to the assemblage processes. The integration of food bowls, patterned vessels, and foreign script introduces surreal narrative elements and multicultural references, positioning the work within postmodern collage traditions. 'Love Garden Party (Envy)' is on 150 lb paper stock and is hand embellished with inks, acrylic paints and collage, thus creating a unique work of art. Love Garden Party (Envy) is framed with conservation quality, high UV-filtering museum glazing. The painting/collage is signed on the lower front of the work by the artist. The work is framed in a heavy white wooden frame. Skip Hill was born in 1961 in Padre Island, Texas but grew up primarily in Oklahoma City. After attending Oklahoma City University to study Advertising and Marketing, he worked as a graphic designer before relocating in 1987 to Southern California. A two-week trip to Thailand in 1989 turned into a year traveling throughout Southeast Asia while writing for a business magazine based in Bangkok. In 1990 Skip Hill relocated to the Netherlands, immersing himself in the culture and learning the Dutch language. His frequent visits the Van Gogh Museum, the Stedelijk Museum and The Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam as well as the Boijman Van Beuningen Museum in Rotterdam, sparked Hill’s interest in creating art inspired by aesthetic concerns over the strictly commercial art he produced during his advertising career. It was during this time abroad that he traveled through Germany, Czechoslovakia and Morocco. After returning to Oklahoma in 1993, Skip Hill studied formally at The University of Oklahoma with conceptual artist Hachivi Edgar Heap of Birds, and influential abstract painter George Bogart...
